Beautifully aged “off vintage” of Lafite. Fruit has slightly faded, but still pick up some cherry cola on the palate. This wine has grown comfortably into its tertiary state showing earth, mushroom and classic Pauillac mineral notes of graphite. A fine example of Lafite in its twilight years.

Fin lengde.

Mature and Maturing Bordeaux (Oslo): Minerals, decent fruit on the nose with a hit of black currants; tobacco, lots of acidity, linear, long. The fruit is clear and fine, but there could have been more of it.

Light red in color with slight bricking around the edges. Wine was opened 1 hour before serving and not decanted. Nice earthy, mushroomy nose. Lively fruit flavors but starting to fade.

Tasting Group Dinner - '75, '83 and '85 Bordeaux (Brad's House, Minneapolis): Very light tea/rose color, with a clear rim. Somewhat attractive initial nose, but quite thin and dilute on the palate. Watery strawberry fruit, herbs, brown sugar, and VA. Almost no tannin or structure remaining. Barely drinkable for the first 5-10 minutes. Cracking up and over-the-hill, although still interesting as a historical artifact.

Low shoulder fill. The cork broke in many pieces during extraction so this was decanted for sediment (and cork) and then poured back into a bottle and vacuum sealed for about 20 minutes while we finished the champagne. The color is an extremely pale red. The nose has a thin but delightful airiness to it with tertiary aromas of mushrooms and sweet tobacco coupled with brown sugar and baking spices. Alive but just barely. In the mouth this is soft and smooth with a somewhat flat palate impression and extremely subtle flavors. Put on a little weight with air. A fun experience, but not a wine to seek out (based on this bottle).

I have no idea what to score this as I really have not had anything like it. Very pale color--light for even an old Burgundy. Did not decant and that was likely a good thing since the first glass was the best and it faded quickly after that. Surprisingly, there was still some fruit left (not much, but some cherry and raspberry). Quite a long finish as well. Clearly, this was dying to be consumed 20+ years ago, but that is just a guess. Still fun.

Opened at Bern's to celebrate a friend's birthday. Slight bottle stink that blew off quickly. I didn't expect much, as this isn't a great Bordeaux year, but even I was taken aback how good the nose and taste was. All secondary aromas and taste, of course. It stood there like a 65 yo dowager at the opera. Class and it shows. Very good.

Historic note (recorded here Aug 06). Old and seriously past it on this showing - some basic soft fruit flavours but wet cardboard dominates - poor bottle.

From magnum. Beautiful. Leather, soy, acid, cassis, lead. Basically a cornucopia of old BDX goodness.

This had a faint wine color and nose that took some time to penetrate the nose. Overall, pretty good for an aged (70) year old wine.

Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Clearly a compromised cork did the wine ill.

Camphor, some ox -- but also still some residual fruitiness, decent length.
