This bottle had been in my wine cooler for 3-4 years, waiting for the proper occasion to be opened. Instead, my wife and I opened it on a recent Friday night simply to celebrate the arrival of the weekend. Dark purple in color, the wine was smooth and silky, with solid punches of black berries and other dark red fruit. Nice, long finish. If you have this one, don't wait much longer to enjoy it. I sense that it might have been even better a year ago.

This was supposed to be past its 'drinking window' but after it decanted for a few hours it was amazing. Very rich and intense Blackberry, Plum, and Currant were strong. The finish was very clean, and I never felt like it over powered any food... from beef to chicken with cream sauce over pasta. Wish I had another 10 bottles of this.

An hour plus in decanter before drinking. Dark fruit with a slight sweetness (cherry?). Fruit up front and mid with hints of oak. Spice/cinnamon/vanilla on a somewhat long finish. Really enjoyed this bottle.

In my bin of wines that need to be drunk before they pass their prime. The drink window notes on this wine were spot on - feels like it's at its peak, with great black fruit, cedar and light coffee notes. The tannins are perfectly aged, creating a smooth, silky mouthfeel. If you have this in your cellar, drink it now - it's ready.

Ninety minute decant before serving with dinner. Blackberry, plum and currant on the nose with some oak notes. Rich fruit forward and mid palate, medium bodied and not overly spicy. Well integrated tannins yet enough structure remaining for this wine to evolve several more years. Medium length elegant finish although a touch of heat. Paired with grilled lamb tips over brown rice and steamed broccoli florets. Would have given an extra point or two if this cab had shown some complexity or character changes.

Incredible aromas with dark fruits wafting powerfully for everyone at the vertical wine dinner. Cassis, Plum, Blackberry, Raspberry jam on the tongue... Wow. Intense, concentrated and rich flavors came through after 2 hours of decanting...which was a great decision. Thanks for the notes in cellartracker that lead to longer decanting than I would normally try. I wish I had a case of this in my cellar.

Has a classic cedar and red currant nose. The fruit is still hiding behind the tannins looking to come out. I would recommend decanting for an hour or two before drinking. Enjoy!!!

Yes, some tannin on the finish, but this is quite drinkable with an hour of air and has a lot of flavor and range for the price (relative to CA cab, that is). Underrated? Probably. WS 86 based on youthful dry tannin that apparently is resolving itself.

Took an hour to open up, typical of Trefethen, but I really likes its simplicity and drinkability. By no means an intellectual wine that makes you think, but nice.

This wine did not open up for 3 hours in a decantur. Very tight beginning with no signs of greatness. Only at the third hour did the wine soften and the acidity dissipate leaving a very bold and jammy finish. I will wait a couple years to pop the cork on another.

Poured at a retailer tasting. Garnet color. Spicy oak notes, followed by cassis, blackberry and plum. Nice balance of fruit and tannin, with plum, blackberry and cedar tones.

Nothing particularly special considering how much I remember enjoying the 97 and 98 vintages, but a good wine. Drink now as it doesn't seem to have too much tannic structure left for long term aging.

Worried it might be skunked but not. Delicious! Long finish. Balanced fruit. Not very tannic. Very enjoyable and will drink for several more years.

Disappointing. Perhaps we waited too long.

disapointing--harsh, with a strange petroleum type note, decanting did not appear to improve. Did not appear oxidized.

Very narrow range of flavor and lacked the depth and fullness of 2001 Napa Cabs. Muy angular. Drank a little hot. Disappointing.
