The last bottle and a pleasant surprise as a bottle of the 2008 "regular" Pinot Noir was not good a few weeks ago. This has held up well with the tannins still quite firm but doubt it will get any better and may well be at or near its peak. Good nose of strawberries and it contiuned to open up as we drank this wine.

NobleRottersSydney - Otago Pinot (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {screwcap, 14%} (Graeme) Bright strawberry nose, just a little aged, still with a bit of a hard edge to it. The palate is silky-textured though. It’s more dark plum on the palate ; there was also a slightly gluey note which blew off quickly. Maybe decant next time? Soft oak. Super-fine gritty medium strength tannins, medium acid. At least medium-bodied; a part of this does still remain a bit closed despite the medium length finish; I really think this should age another 5 years at least. Has a sense of having not quite reached its potential yet.

Dark ruby in colour. Weak nose with dampened berries, forest floor and some heat. A very new world Pinot with hot weather signature and clear oak influence. Low in acidity. All-in-all, it's at MSD village level.

Case of six drank during 2014, all very enjoyable.
Ripe, airy, raspberries and cherries on the nose. Sweet ball of dark cherries on the palate with earthy depth. Good drive, concentration and lift on the finish. Maybe slightly hot on the finish, but this would be nitpicking, as this is a very good Otago pinot.

Good but not great - typical otago nose of rich fruit and nail varnish remover - fruit weight is there but the fruit itself fairly quickly falls away into acid and dry steminess - this would be ok in a lighter bodied wine as it would add elegance but here it seems a bit disjointed - still a solid effort though

NobleRottersSydney - Pinot Noir (Verde, East Sydney): {screwcap, 14%} (Graeme) One of Otago’s aristocrats stepped up here. There’s a green touch present; but fleeting aromas of capsicum and stalkiness are submerged by black cherries and malty oak. They are richly present too on the medium-bodied palate, woven with taut acid and chalky tannins. The more I taste of this the more its youth is evident; the even palate presence and tidy medium length finish promise an even better experience in 5 years’ time.

Very Good, savoury notes mixed with the dark fruit on the nose - ripe tannins that linger, some steminess which adds to complexity and then that velvety rich fruit in harmony - well balanced, great length and still got a few years ahead - 3.5 fingers

Tasted side by side with the 2008 Felton road Cornish point. Looks a bit older. Less clear. Dull? Perfumed on nose. Subtle pepper touch of cranberry. Sweeter fruits. More strawberry. Very soft. Good acidity. No obvious tannins. Much less of alcohol finish vs Cornish point. Overall, I found this more simplistic than the Cornish point. There was more fruit

Rich and bright red in colour. Brambles on the palate. Elements of tart red fruits. There is also something creamy on the palate. Spicy. 30 sec plus finish.

Deep bright red. Very fruity nose. Lots of raspberry and bramble on the palate. Spicy. Took time to open up. More so than the Cornish point. Perhaps will therefore age a bit longer.

Classic. It's obviously a very well made, elegant wine, with all the classic NZ Pinot notes. The nose is quite expressive, though perhaps a little too streamlined for my taste - i.e. all the flavours don't quite integrate with one another. It's very nice, but I do think Felton Road excel at whites in a way that they don't a reds. But it couldn't be more true to what it is trying to be.

Taste of New Zealand (Sydney, Australia): Very pure fruited. Red cherries and restrained raspberry aromas. Palate is bright with lots of red fruit flavour. Nice length. I enjoyed how bright and clean this was.

Deep, rich & full bodied yet yet showing freshness & excellent balance. A sophisticated wine which shows why Felton Road is so highly regarded. This will improve as the tannins soften so while much to enjoy now, I will not try my other bottles for at least a year

A Review of NZ pinots; 5/14/2010-5/15/2010 (Jade Seafood At forum): Very NZ in style but modern NZ with lots of extract but lacking structure to maintain. Attractive ripe cool cherry, dark raspberries with tint of plummishness. Almost monolithic in style with bordeaux like tannins framed with mocha oak. Not a style suited for pinot that I like.

Ultimate Parker in Singapore Mega-Tasting (The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore): Decently good, better than the estate I thought, but still not great. Nose showed plenty of sweet cherries, a touch of funky earth and some savoury sketches - very attractive in a new world pinot sort of way. Palate was sweet and extracted, yet somehow still nicely balanced, with rather pretty cherry and raspberry flavours at the fore. Still rather uni-dimensional, but with a bit more depth and interest than the estate. Finish showed more candied fruit, some spice and a mocha coffee note. Pretty pleasant wine, but not altogether memorable. Vines are still very young, barely a decade old I think, and it showed on the wine.

I probably drank this a bit early but this ended up being an excellent food wine. Purple Rose. Quite closed nose even after being decanted for about 40 min. At first, tight...far away wood, slight hint of something green. A lot of structure in the mouth over lots of rasberries and herbs. Even so, its not talking much. An hour later, more ripe fruit and a touch of vanilla. drinking beautifully with sauteed duck breast which bought out its savoury notes. Really good.

more red fruited and slightly lighter in body than the 2007 basic. lower lying, heavier soil, more sheltered. said to add 'structure, austere, mineral notes.' yes, definitely shows more structure than the basic. both acid and tannin show more pronouncement. planted in 1999.

Less open, more raw wood smells, the "middle" of the three vineyards. Pure raspberry fruit character, very structured on the back, very tight right now. This apperently is the more structured and austere of the offering. Its up there at $55.

This is quite a bit darker with a big lick of liquorice and some meatier notes. It has a fleshy, juicy mid-palate and everything is underpinned by serious structural elements. Needs time!
