The nose on opening is blackberry pie with a whiff of pepperiness. On the palette, the tannins are only moderately integrated, blackberry carries through more subdued, strong black licorice, with the prototypical hay and tapioca (perhaps more vanilla cream) on the mid-palette and graphite/mineral on the back end (reminiscent of Rutherford more than Oakville). At the very back end they’re a subtle nectarine or mango.

14 year vertical. 2007: this was aptly described as a cherry sundae. It is Cherry ice cream on the nose, that explodes on the palette with additional cherry jam and cream. By mid-palette, it adds latte. By the end, it becomes a cherry machiotto. Silky on the palette. This wine had ratings from 92-95, based on preference for jamminess.

2007. Dark purple. Pine and cherry on the nose. Front pallet Bing cherry, and a vanilla custard that ends in tapioca. A late sour cherry and pepper ends in a Rutherford dust (despite the fact that the fruit is all Oakville). Velvety mouth feel, enough tannins to support the complex structure. This is an amazing wine. Drink it now, it is at its peak.

This is one of the Crown Jewels of the Plumpjack collection. It pours a deep purple. The nose is spicy, belying the eventual palate. It opens as dried cherries and plum. It goes to marshmallow, then dark cocoa. It ends on tobacco, then a little sour cherry, then a long tobacco finish. It's balanced, with fully integrated tannins. Truly an exquisite wine.

Cork good, utilized the Coravin and drank half the bottle tonight.....ok chilled but really opens and smooths out when it spends an hour in the glass. Great dark fruit, some blueberry, chocolate, maybe some fig/black olive........nice full mouth feel, perfect acidity and extremely well integrated tannins. This is drinking exceptionally well right now.

Screwtop. Decanted. Big, rich nose of complex, dark fruit layers on pouring. Full bodied with heavy tobacco at first. As it opened I received a faint mention of vanilla and dark berries, followed by warmth from the rising alcohol. Tannins were smooth and integrated and took a back seat to the bold finish and back palate dominance, which echoed on and on. Two hours in, only the aromatics seemed to mellow somewhat. The large flavors and dominant presence on the back palate was unrelenting to the end. Dynamite.

Did a vertical tasting of 06-10 on New Years Eve. The 2007 has always been a lush, fruity wine from the day of release. It is holding up very well, maintaining rich, dark red fruits, with cocoa and coffee on the end. With that being said, there hasn't been a lot of improvement with age, and not sure there will be going forward. Not seeing any reason to cellar for a long period.

Did a vertical tasting of '06 to '09. All decanted 3 hours. This wine was the highlight of the evening. It is very forward with red and purple fruit, but it goes on and on with later vanilla and cocoa. The mouth feel is velvety. The somewhat high alcohol content, noticeable earlier on,was no longer a factor. This is a great wine, perfect to consume now and for years to come. Truly outstanding!

We decanted the wine for 3 hours. It was full of black and blue fruit. A bit heavy but full of wonderful fruit and a nice dose of vanilla. Extremely long finish. Memorable.

Beautiful wine with an explosion of cherry and a silky finish. Can’t wait to experience the other bottles as they age.

Blueberry and black cherry fruit. So easy to drink. Smooth and silky. Very approachable now but will make it in the long run.
