  • I went looking for images of this wine, but there’s not much out there, and there’s not much written about, either. It is a blended red wine. It is 15.4% alcohol, which is a lot. I found someone who claims the blend is:

"zinfandel, petite syrah, syrah, charbono, gamay, cab, and malbec, selected from excess bulk wines provided by some more well-known and unnamed vineyards." (http://spiritofwine.blogspot.com/2010/04/relativity-vineyards-quantum-reserve.html).

[I added the image of the cork and bottle to this site.]

The label is hard to make out. But the in embossed in black near the label’s top, it reads “E=MC2“. Below that in red, it reads “RELATIVITY VINEYARDS”. And in the red band, it reads “Quantum Reserve”.

The back of the label indicates the wine is from Saint Helena, California.

E=MC^2 Quantum Reserve has dark cherry color. It’s about 85-90% opaque.

It’s nose is delicious. There’s vanilla, plums, raspberries, dark cherries, black currants, and a hint of strawberries. I think it going to be jammy.

It’s oddly salty, especially on the finish. That’s weird. I’ve never experienced that before. I wonder if Saint Helena is near the ocean. (I just checked. It’s about 60 miles inland. I doubt salty ocean breezes travel that far.)

I pick up cantaloupe on the taste and maybe a hint of chocolate and a hint of raspberry jam. It’s hard to pick up much. This would be a really good wine if it wasn’t salty. It’s less salty each sip, but it is still noticeable . . . noticeable on the finish but not in the mouth. I think the salt is some how related to the Malbec. There’s also cherry Kool-Aid on the finish.

    What a weird wine.

I’m going to give this 87 points. Without the salt it could be an 89, but it’s difficult to be sure.

I definitely over paid for this one.

And now for a haiku I wrote earlier this year:

    Einstein's Haiku
    (For Melissa)

    Everything I do
Means I want to love you squared –
    Come with me and prove

  • Solvent and alcohol on the nose (not a surprise given it's 15.4% ABV), but there is enticing vanilla, dusty cocoa, sweet cinnamon, blackcurrant, and jam.

Medium to full-bodied with drinkable tannins, moderate acidity, mesquite, and more jam. Definitely hot, so drinking this on the cooler side is not a bad idea. A disappointing midpalate and finish.

  • Very smooth. I liked it. This is not first time I have a wine like this where when let sit in the mouth a slightly salty taste starts to develop in the middle of the tongue and wine in that region seems to congeal, developing a jello-like texture.

  • Nose and palate of mocha, blackberry and plums. A bit hot/jammy & lacking tannins, but it has good concentration & pure flavors. Drink now.

  • Gift bottle. Not sure from who, or I'd thank them again. Pleasant, jammy, with moderately soft tannins; fine for sipping on the front porch; assume it will work well with some burgers.

  • A nose of dark fruit, dark black in color. Black cherry, plum, blackberries, a full bodied big blend, a big chunky but very good, similar notes as same time.

  • This is a rich and soft big fruit wine, but the blend hides any varietal character. The petite syrah, while adding weight and fruit, seems to kill off the zin flavors. Good but generic big red.

  • This wine was a wonderful pairing with lamb with a middle eastern rub. The zin characteristics matched beautifully with the spice rub. The cab. qualities blended well with the meat. GREAT PAIRING.

  • Enjoyed it, but uneventful. I've been looking for a good sub $20 red blend to drink now and stock up as a good quaffer. This was good as I was expecting from Relativity but there was nothing special about it, it was jammy, smooth, quite concentrated, a hint of acidity, generally very pleasant to drink but did not evolve much after popping and pouring. BTW, 12-18 months of aging may do this wine some good. Next up, Turnbull Old Bull and 75th Company The Sum.

  • Dark, dark purple color. Big wine. Sweet in the nose, but luxurious on the palate. Just not too complex.

  • Wow this is a big wine. Jammy gobs of fruit all over the place. Zero acidity. Not really my thing but this will have its followers. Very 'Prisoner' like.

  • Color: Deep garnet. Nose: Rubber, leather and red and dark fruits. Taste: Easy drinking flavors of again red and dark fruits with some oak and decent acidity. Medium body. Finish: A bit hot with a medium finish of red raspberry, cherry and berries. This needs to be opened for a bit before drinking. I have had it opened for an hour and it could use more time. At $18.00, fairly priced but I may search for something else. Day 2: Kinda fell apart. More muted dark fruit with the same hotness as the night before. Would not buy again. ...JaD!
