Medium garnet in glass, aromas of smoke, cherry pie and rosewater. Palate is a blast of fruitbown (black and red cherry, raspberry and strawberry), followed by layers of campfire smoke, black earth and a touch of saddle leather, all swaddled in sweet, round tannins and balancing acidity. Just emerging from a quiet period, with many years of potential to go. How do you spell Grand Cru in the RRV?

Rating this was tough for me. On one hand, I can't remember when I've had a wine with as much fruitiness as this one; cherry, blueberry, strawberry, cranberry. The whole orchard was there, so to speak. On the other, I missed having some complexity with spices and earthy, funky notes. Mouth feel and color were great, so no dings there. In the end, although it's probably the best example of fruit-forwardness without being jammy or over-extracted that I can remember, the lack of complexity dropped it down a few points for me.

Absolutely superb! We took this bottle to our favorite restaurant ... she had a glazed salmon filet and I had a hoisun glazed bone in pork chop. With cherries, strawberries and some cola on the nose and palate, this was dynamite in the mouth with great balance. Before and during the meal, this was easily one of the top 5 bottles we've ever tasted over the past 15-20 years that we've been into wine. I hated to see the empty bottle ... :(

Big raspberry fruit and velvety tannins, with a notable dose of spice. Papapietro Perry wines don't pull punches in being fruit-forward, but the Pommard Clones Pinot in particular also displays excellent structure and complexity. Great example of an 07 Russian River Pinot. You could wait another year or two before drinking this beauty.

Easy drink, fruit forward, smooth medium body pinto with great acidity and bright flavors of strawberry, cranberry and rasberry. Great food wine and a big hit.

Fresh red fruit rings out from this exuberant '07. Tasted along side an '06 Kosta Browne Amber Ridge, this was by far the more forward and fresh, though less complex and structured. A great wine for drinking now.

What a wonderful wine! dark red in color, dark to medium bodied with aromas of dark red cherries with spice on the nose. On sipping the wine is full of red cherries and cranberries with spice. It is silky and smooth and has a lengthy finish. Very good wine!

Tour - Napa / Sonoma 2009; 8/25/2009-8/29/2009 (Napa / Sonoma, CA): Best of Pinots tasted from same winery. Bouquet cherry, earthy. Taste back end complexity that will mature, sweet and long finish that builds. Light to medium body. Young, needs some more aging. 100% Pinot Noir. At $70 - somewhat overpriced, however if the claim to Pommard similarity holds true, the price may be worth it some day. Tasted at Ferrari-Carano winery on Napa trip. $15 for 4 tastings - this was an extra to tasting.
POST NOTE - visited Pommard, Burgundy, France in 2013 - tasted similar quality wines there, so this "clone" claim seems to be correct. Good young Pinots there were in the $45 to $80 (ish) range, and assumed aging of 5 to 20 years for full maturity.

Still very drinkable but definitely way past its prime. Bricking on the edges. Fruit very faded.

Wine is definitely aged as it clear on the edges and bricking. Soft round fruit with a nice long finish. Would drink over next 12 months

Enjoyable medium bodied and fruit forward with primary cherry fruit. Not a lot of complexity under the fruit though

Wonderful pinot. Sweet cherry on the initial taste and a littel spice on the finish. Wish I had more of this!
