The 2007 Gardens of Babylon has really come together. Dense and intense yet balanced. Clear notes of blackberry and black pepper. Full bodied (and then some) Perfectly mature now but should keep well for years to come.

Packs a wallop, but a lovely reminder of why in my meat eating days I was on the Scholium list. Big, boysenberry fruit flavored with spice and still lots of acidity 8 years on. Integrated tannins. We are having it with quinoa and pesto and wild mushrooms and it is a great pairing. Proof that vegetarians can enjoy big red wines.

Really, really dense. After a lot of airing, it really starts to open up. Cinnamon and spice. Very very interesting (as always with Scholium). Great wine. Love to serve Scholium wines to people that haven't tried it before.

Vegetal aromas when opened, kind of flat, not impressed...but day 2 this really came around - mellow robust fruit, some wood, very smooth. Much much better the 2nd night.

Last bottle was totally overrun with VA, which never totally blew off. This one was a different story. Aerated for 8+ hours, showing black fruit, vanilla, cedar, and woodsy notes. Drinks much more smooth than its cousin Babylon, and is likely a go for near-term drinking with appropriate aeration. Surprisingly balanced and deft, though still strong and surefooted.

Nice nose. Good tannins, great on the front end. Reminiscent of a Northern Rhone Syrah. I don't think there's much (of any) residual sugar in this. Not syrupy, but the finish is definitely tart, and somewhat pruny. An excellent pairing for a rib eye steak.

Very interesting. Tart & syruppy, with a tarry gaminess to it (those are words, right??!) which relaxed over the course of the night. This has a good backbone, and I'd suggest holding for a year to let melt together. Again, very interesting, drink when you have time to linger.

Cheers to the Record Snowfall (Roberts House): very fruity, with blackberry and plum liqueur -- very sweet fruit. medium(+) tannins are a bit out of sync with the wine right now. The best description of this wine I could come up with was "slutty" -- it was extremely forward and the sweetness was overpowering.

Big, rich and ripe. Almost a dessert wine. Well made and tasty, but ......

Youthful, structured, yet quite rich showing. Not very complex though. Will it ever be?

Excellent earthy smell. Soft tannins, slight spices at the end. Deep blueberry taste.

Random Wines on Snowbound Night (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): Good, but a little over the top. Peppery with big fruit. Juicy and mout watering syrah blend. Good acidity and nice structure. A little syrupy.
