  • Raspberry, strawberry, boysenberry, sous bois, lovely mature nose; lively, with some still notable fruit, but showing age, maturity, and depth; elegant, and also tasty and alluring; very good indeed

  • Medium red. Red fruit and pine needles with an aspect that suggests some degree of carbonic maceration. Light with some retained gas. Initial burst of sweet fruit then takes a back seat to more herbal elements. High acidity that is very '96. Prickly finish. My experiences with this wine have been all over the map; this bottle was one of the better ones, which is to say that it is not bad but is rather disjointed and reminds one of a chemistry experiment in some ways. Surely not Grand Cru quality, that is clear. I did not shed a single tear when I realized this was my last bottle.

  • Medium ruby with minimal fading. Licorice and black fruit with appealing secondary perfume. Over time, seems to trend to stemminess. Less interest on the palate-thin and a little short on the fruit. It has none of the charm of Charmes, and does not particularly say "Gevrey" or "Grand Cru". Unlikely to improve, only to attenuate.

  • This needed an hour to breathe, but then it was really delicious!

  • I opened this bottle with trepidation because last time was such a disaster, but it turned out to be a pleasant (if not earth shattering) surprise. Light ruby that deepened in the glass. Nose of moss, underbrush, anise, and blackberry. Lean, high acid style that added a bit of weight and an interesting ground coffee note at the end. A Burgundy for Nebbiolo lovers-it really did have an uncanny resemblance to a Barolo. Good but don't expect a Grand Cru ride.

  • Medium to light red with fading outer half. As the cork came out, a full blast of wood. Three hours later when poured, very exaggerated, bacony high char oak. On the palate, light weight with most of the '96 acidity incorporated, but wait, isn't there something missing here? Yes, that would be the fruit. An absolute joke, this was closer to Bourgogne than to Grand Cru level.
