No formal notes, drank at dinner. A very youthful 20 year-old wine. Still tight. Good density, has promise, but doesn't scream profound. Somewhat heavy oak seems to be a limiting factor in the flavor development.

Friday Night Burgs (Margeaux Brasserie): No where close to ready. This has so much concentration and ripe fruit that is overt and not yet nuanced in any way. The stuffing is there and the structure is there too. Needs at least 5 years like many 1999s. High 80s tonight, but this has 93+ potential.

Burgundies at Margeaux Brasserie (Chicago, IL): Not in a good spot at the moment, this was just really ornery and tight, especially next to the brilliant 1991 Santenots-de-Milieu. The nose seems to show a good amount of fruit but that expression isn't on the palate at all. Just a lot of tannin, and a slight bit of oak too.

Very reticent on the nose. Two hours of air time coaxed only the slightest hint of spice, although a healthy dose of dry soil. Somewhat closed on the palate, and not displaying much Volnay character. Noticeable tannic structure

Dark and murky in the glass. Closed nose aside from some spice notes. Hazy ripe dark berries, plum, and blue fruit on the palate, some soil, relatively well-balanced, acid is there. A little clunky and misdirected at first but gained focus and balance with about two hours of decanter time. This is a relatively big and chewy wine, still with some subtle tannins that became more pronounced with time. I'm inclined to cellar for at least another year or certainly an extended decant is in order for now.

Very concentrated nose of redolent black fruit and medicinal herbs. The palate was tight to start but opened up with some air and really showed a mixed black and red fruit profile where the acidity really drove the latter. The tannins are integrated and the finish opens up a bit with a very subtle earthiness and vibrant almost pomegranate note. This will continue to integrate over the next few years, I'll hold my last few bottles for a while longer.

Drinking young - we will wait 1-2 years to drink the next bottle. Fruits superb, but a little too concentrated and need time to soften. This wine has great potential, but it's just entering window of drinking really well.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Aromas of spicy black peppercorn on the nose, with some light red fruit character. The palate is in a really nice spot right now, with a good balance of red fruit and cooking cherry acidity. Definitely veers towards the ripe side, but this is reaching a really good drinking window right now. This can only improve over the next 5-10 years.

Dinner at Goosefoot (Goosefoot, Chicago IL): Nose: There is some tightness to the nose, but it is also elegant with gorgeous tones of dark red fruits, violets, berries, spices, an red florals.
Taste: Medium bodies with medium+ acidity that is very noticeable. There are good supporting tannins along with elegant tones of dark red fruits, violets, berries, and some spices.
Overall: This had a lot of class and elegance. It's still showing young, but is extremely good right now as well.

Clear, dark ruby color; Aromas of wet stones, floral and cherries with cherry and smoke flavors. Long mineral finish. Medium weight and balanced but very unevolved. Somewhat tannic for Pinot but in all a very nice Burgundy. Hold this one. Next 2013??

Nez de fruits noirs, des épices, une bouche assez dense, de belle texture, d’une insolente jeunesse, bel équilibre, magnifique. 93-94
Dark fruit and spices, the palate is dense, great texture, good acidity, very balanced, feels so young, gorgeous.

Lovely fruit, floral and persistent. But still quite tannic. Best left for another year or two.

Still has tannins and a good amount of red fruit. This is on its plateau for likely another 5 to 10 years.

Gorgeous - more evolved than three years ago. Luscious, red fruits with earth notes. Excellent balance, with a medium long finish.
