  • Initially a little reductive on the nose, but this soon dissipated to reveal a wine of great promise. This is nowhere near its peak but can be drunk with immense satisfaction now. There's plenty of elegance here but the depth of fruit and layers of complexity leading to the spicy, smoky finish suggest that I should really leave this alone for another 5-10 years.

  • Elegant and balanced. Some barnyard with pretty spice, lavender, herbs and solid red cherry. Full but not round on the palate with more tart cherry and asian spice. Good acid that supports, but doesn't dominate, the mid-palate and fine tannins. The finish is a bit brief and the fruit fades considerably over time in the glass, but the nose stays beautiful. Seems to be one to drink now.

  • Very fine. Still some tanin, perhaps another six months?

  • Excellent balance, depth and complexity. Bags of red fruit along with tar and forest floor. Very long. Has the capability to evolve much further.

  • This was a much cleaner bottle than the previous one and a great pleasure. Beginning with the wonderfully forward yet delicate nose of black fruit and minerals, this wine is a pleasure. It does not have the stern structure of what I would think of as classic Nuits. Indeed, rather than shedding structure and revealing sweetness over time, since the previous bottle it has gained in volume and precision while retaining its initial accessibility. What really makes this for me is that it is perfectly paced from a light but distinct attack through a mid-weight body to a nice if not necessarily profound finish. In short, a wine for pleasure that does exactly what you want pinot to do without having to ponder it too long. Interestingly, I found none of the funk that had bothered me in the previous tasting. Only the next bottle will show if this is evolution or bottle variation.

  • I wonderfully dark pinot nose with ample minerals. Elegant. Attack is light and grows on the palate with middle-weight dark flavors of black cherry and minerals finishing with a good streak of ripe acidity. All in all a nice bottle whose only flaw is that the purity of the flavors are blurred by a significant dose of brett which I can't be too excited about. The pinot comes through loud and clear but I'm just not a big fan of the funk that masks terroir and subtlety.
