started with tight tannic profile and not much nose, with 30 min of air, tannins softened quite dramatically, rich mouthfeel with elegance, but not too much fragrance or complexity. sort a head scratcher

Bottle similar to previous notes but this bottle added some herbal flavors similar to a Cab Franc. Maybe it's the youth of the wine but it changed dramatically for a couple of hours after opening and decanting. Obscure but interesting in a good way.

Dark, clear ruby with a purple tinge; The nose was expansive spice and cherry with cherry, dark fruit (plum??) and spice flavors. Slight earth on the finish. This started out smelling like an earthy Pinot Noir but after the decant and some air time ended up more like a lightly oaked Nebbiolo. Medium weight, reasonably complex and balanced but very young. This should improve with further bottle time but it's probably not an ager. The varietal is Nerello Mascalese. 14.5% alcohol.

Note similar to note of 11/28/09. It's fun to have an obscure wine like this that is actually good.
