This wine is dry, elegant and drinkable now. It shows the herbal quality of Alexander Valley Cabs, with a sage note to the blackberries, cherries and sweet tobacco. S,H, (3/1/2011)

I couldn't make up my mind about this wine. It's extremely drinkable today. Soft. Nice nose. not a lot of tannin. Decent body, but not a lot of punch. If you're looking for a nice balanced cab with drinkable flavors, this works well. If you're looking for something more powerful, it's a little lacking.

Very similar stylistically to the 2006 vintage, which I was not a huge fan of. I like this one a little better, as it didn't fall apart at the end, but it's still not quite my style and I wouldn't buy again, particularly at $25.

This wine seeks the limits with its concentration; nearly too much of everything. Don't understand me wrong, it is a very nice wine, but you are nearly obliged to enjoy this wine only with a very spicy chili con carne. I wait with the last bottles one or two years.

Plush, soft black currant fruit and cocoa that has a sweetness on the palate. Med-full body and very light tannin. Wine is a bit one dimensional but would be considered a "crowd pleaser" by many.

For a value priced cab this was amazing. Good body, heavy plum, light oak, but has a smokey meaty note to it to that sits so well with my dinner. Very light on the tanins too but with a fairly long finish. I'm ready to go buy a case if my store still has it.

After a summer of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, I was excited to see this wine on the shelves as I began to return to Cabernet Sauvignon for the fall. Like most, I suspect, I've been on the lookout for this wine since reading the remarkably high score in Decanter. 19.17/20? Top rated 2007 California Cabernet of the year? Better than Ridge Monte Bello? We'll see.
The alcohol is hot, takes a a long time to blow off, and can be a distraction. The dominate aroma is woody menthol -- and lots of it. A hint of mint is always nice, but this was a little much, in my opinion. Other aromas include the typical black currants and blackberries. The wine is full bodied on the palate. Doesn't offer much complexity, if any. One dimensional. Not focused. Soft, round, and elegant. Even a bit creamy. Finishes smooth; and finishes long, which is a big plus in wines in this price range. I do not believe that this wine will develop into anything better or more complex. In the $20 - $30 price range, this is definitely on par with the Parker-lauded Louis Martini Napa Valley Reserve 2007. The Martini is sweeter than the Sebastiani, and tastes more confected. The Sebastiani is a good value, and it offers more depth than what is typically found in $25 California Cabernet Sauvignon. Don't set expectations too high, however. Recommended. Paid $22.99.

Hitting on all cylinders tonight and seemed to be ready to go right from the pop. Yeah, it has a bit of a hot edge but overall, very full and round with a nice spine to hold it together. Don't think it could or even should get much better as it's makes a darn good impression now for $25. Solid buy

Chunky, hefty, lots of mocca, the first day. The second day the mocca still stood out, but there was more balance. It is a young wine with a very deep healthy colour and a very good future. I think the wine got too much by winning the 2007 tasting in Decanter, but at € 25 it is absolutely worth cellering some bottles, so I did.

Decanted 2hrs, served at about 78deg and maybe a touch too warm. Color is still dark ruby hue but with noticeable fade in the saturation. Moderate nose driven by cassis and florals, some nice earth and fig showing, too. Medium body and very nicely balanced across acidity, tannins, alcohol, and sweet, vibrant fruit. Not a prime value, but worth it's tariff. 5+11+16+7 = 89

This was always one of our favorite Sebastiani cabs back when they had the better winemakers. The spicy kick is a bit muted from their 00-02's but overall they carried on the tradition quite well with this one. Very complex for your lower priced cab. A lot going on. I would almost venture to say it was better (at least more fun to drink) that the 01 ($60) Cherryblock we had a few days earlier. Drink these young!

Purchased this after reading Decanters' fine five-star review. Nose is very sweet, almost port like, with candied pruns. Palate is not as refined and elegant as I would prefer, notes of vanilla, black prunes, menthol, and cream. The wine has a high dose of acidity, which is refreshing. Finish is very solid as well. Prunish oak qualities just too much for my palate.

Fresh and lively, with some good strong tannins. Weakness is the midpalate - it never really shows up to match up to the initial fruit wow and the good melding of the tannins. On the plus side, I think that this is a very accessible young wine and it does pair will with food (gingered beef and veggies was a nice matching) but I don't think it's gonna age for a long time. Great qpr though - this is an excellent one to add by the case and enjoy with anyone who wants a cheap and pleasurable drinking occasion.

Notes from 2nd day. Appealing color of black plum skin, 95% saturated and heavy legs. Moderately driven nose of cassis, mocha, blueberry, fennel, and light florals. Very creamy palate that is full of brambly fruit, vanilla bean, and ripe tannins leading into a lush finish. Very decent buy and no need to wait on drinking. 5+11+16+8 = 90

Drank the night after an 07 Clos du Val. This was not quite as good. More fruit, but softer. Drank an 01 Clos du Val the next night and it was holding up fine at 10 years. Don't think this one will make that. Probably best in the next several years.

Cabernet Sauvignon (Farpointe Cellar): Lots of black tea and blackberry on the nose, with toasted oak in the middle, and some herbs at the end. Rich and slightly jammy on the palate, with plenty of dark fruit and charred oak to carry it. The tea and earth flavors round out the finish.

This is a superb wine. Full nose with floral, oak, and berry. Full, smooth initial taste on the palate with blueberry, cassis, tobacco and a touch of oak. Finish was smooth and mellow. This wine tastes like it has aged even though it is only three years old. I did not decant, though it did mellow over the 2 hour dinner. I am not sure where a previous rater received his bottle--perhaps a bad one? My bottles were very even on the oak tannins and not as fruit forward as many CA cabs are. Well worth the $15.

Decanted 2 hours before notes. Color is a deep ruby/purple hue, >95% opaque with average legs. Strong blueberry and cassis with nice reductive bramble that fades over time with air. The nose is light to average intensity. Creamy attack with lovely fruit and vanilla oak spices, a bit of heat on the end. Tannins are easy to handle and some proper acidity adds a good salivation factor. Medium endurance to the finish at about 20-30sec for me. Bought based on the Decanter blind tasting of 2007 Napa/Sonoma cabs. This wine was first place and the only one to average over 19 points (of 20). Frankly I don't see it. This is an oak monster (entirely consistent with Sebastiani's style btw). The nose explodes with perfumy oak, vanilla, rlpe red berry and sweet floral notes. It is a beautiful rich red to purple color, almost jeweled. The palate is just as you would expect, sweet ripe jammy red fruit, currant, vanilla and smoky oak with little tannin or acidity. Finish is rich with sweet fruit, tight and light tannins. Not particularly long. This is a very stylish oaked Cali cabernet. I would not have thought it would be so liked in Europe as this wine has little in common style wise with the great clarets of Europe. Maybe that's the point. It doesn't even try.

I am not a fan of California Cabs, and have been underwhelmed by Silver Oak and Stag's Leap (Fay), however when I read about 07 CabSauvs in Decanter (UK) and their top pick was under $25, well.... If 6 experts said it was good, then it was worth a try. Wow this is really good, the tannins are smooth, the oak subtle, the fruit very forward but elegant. Needs at least 30 mins, post aeration. Drink it all in one night, day 2 loses a bit. My California Cab inventory went from 1 to 30

There are several things about this wine I really like. First of all, like a lot of Alexander Valley cabs, it is very dark in color. The nose smells like blueberry, which to me usually means clones 6 or 7, which I also like. It is balanced and medium bodied, not heavy at all. It is very ripe, there is no noticeable herbaceousness. It does not get to the 90 point glass ceiling because it is slightly thin on the mid palate, and the fruit is a little one dimensional. But there is still more I like. I think we have some medium heavy toast oak which complements this well. The tannins are very smooth. Everything sort of works. Some of this I like is the product of a great vintage, but we also have to give the vineyard and winemaking team some credit, and maybe explore more of what Sebastiani is doing.

Blackish, brown color with a purple tinge. Pretty, menthol infused black fruit aromas. Elegant, cool, charcoal infused black currant that is hampered by a bit of overly green acidity. Might need some time to settle down. Could be really good.
