Roses and red fruit: raspberry as much as cherry on the nose. Really lovely florals. This is supple and giving on the palate, with lovely inner mouth perfume, more florals, and a lovely sense of balance. Nothing really sticks out here, it just works. Grace and depth with lovely focus. Finishes with fine firm tannins on the back end. This one grew over the hours we drank it. Drinking at a youthful peak.

Garnet in colour fading to petal pink at its rim. A revealing nose with compelling scents of roses and jasmine joined by dried cherry and cranberry notes and details of brewed tea and truffles. Its clarity, elegance and accessable texture made me think of a Barbaresco in a blind tasting.Still youthful and has many years to offer its charm.

A big drinking pleasure. The 2007 is in perfect shape and harmony. Fresh for the vintage and intense both on the nose and palate. Crushed blackberries & violets, sweet plum, sage, licorice and chestnut meld in a bouquet of diversity and balance. Profound. Classically structured with noble, refined tannins.

A tad disappointing given the pedigree (and price!). Lots of balsam, but also baked figs and spice showing the warmth of the vintage. Plenty of acidity, but wasn't as seamless as it could have been. A lot of chunky sediment decanted off, but still a lot of fine supsended sediment; if I had a do over I would give the bottle 1.5+ months to let that sediment settle down but i would not expect to improve my score.

Slight signs of evolution around the rim. Balsamic notes, rose petals, cherries, spices on the nose. On the palate expressive and quite evolved. Good acidity. Slightly drying finish. Elegant and long. Drink or keep. 92-94

From Magnum. After about an hour of air the nose blossomed. A very fine wine not at all marked by the heat of the vintage. Very accessible now, this wine will only improve.

Tooch Going Away Dinner (TDS): Someone at dinner said the nose smells of Skoal, and that seemed to resonate. Aromas of high toned red fruit, mint and tobacco. The palate pops with concentrated, smooth, rich and chewy fruit. Yes this is young, but it's fun now and shows incredible potential. Upside with no reservations to age even from a 'warm' vintage.

A farewell to Tooch (Chicago, IL): I'm a true idiot for not buying more Rinaldi before the prices blew up. This was a stunning bottle of nebbiolo and one of my favourite wines of the evening (and showing inordinately better than the Bartolo). Crystalline red fruit, with a sweet perfume to go alongside it. The palate is definitely heady and ripe, and the alcohol shows, but there is still really good balance here and this never actually feels hot. The fruit is a little sweet, but I think it exemplifies the vintage in this case.

Ripe, heady red fruits and menthol notes sort of dominate everything. Lots of alcohol, but there's also a lot of intensity so it doesn't really detract from the wine. Still young, clearly, but very enjoyable at this stage.

very light and open Barolo which is accessible now although not fully developed in any way. Guiseppe Rinaldi continues to produces Barolo wines with an almost unprecedented lightness. Quite nice now. I am doubtful how many years this will stay in perfect form.

Magnum. Really lively, feminine, plush, energetic wine. Still quite young and primary but beautiful profile. Out of mag would hold for another 5-7 years at least.

Deep red. Significant sediment. After several hours in the decanter, pine-y menthol and florals dominate the feminine, perfumed nose. Silky and plush, with soaring acidity framing flavors of dark fruit and spice. I'd hold onto this a few more years, but certainly nice today with air.

Bright ruby. Opened up nicely with several hours of decanting to show juicy red cherry fruit along with more classic notes of light tar and tobacco. Nice, ripe fruit balanced by plenty of smooth tannins. You get the depth of fruit of a warm vintage without any hint of heaviness or overripeness as this is actually bright and fresh. Quite good right now.

The nose was dark with depths of ripe black fruit, pine, and spice in an intense display. On the palate, I found silky textures with brisk contrasting acidity and deep, dark fruits, which clung to the senses through the finish. Hints of spice, dried citrus and savory herbs lingered long.

Sweet-sour cherries and strawberries, Peruvian bark, rose flowers, very balanced, fine, almost elegant, drinking well already. Even better the 2nd day; no sign of nail varnish or volatlie acidity, altough I forgot to put the almost empty, open bottle in the fridge. Do this with almost any other red wine and you'll end up with vinegar.

2007, an extraordinary vintage for Barolo? (Enoteca Barolo - Madrid): That pale colour than you're expecting from a Rinaldi. Pure bakery in the early morning on the nose. Also marzipan, dry roses, milky chocolate and truffle meat. That's a tremendous effort! Elegant. Long seconds of pleasure. Mineral to the bone. Also a touch of an old strawberry chew gum. Same elegance on the palate, fresh and velvety. An easy winner.

Trip to Alba: Tasting Barolo 2007s (Alba, Piemonte (and surrounding towns)): Somewhat inferior in my view to the brunate le coste. nice aromatics but lacking length and oomph, a little simple. From magnum and popped and poured so deserves a break, but not screaming much to me over the 3 hours we drank it.

Delicius nose made of red and fresh fruit (strawberry and raspberry) with a touch of violet. Now it does seem to have the nastiness of other barolo, in fact the tannic texture is very rounded. Good level of acidity lovely drinking at this moment.
