Waited about 5 years too long to drink this wine. Nose is subdued after having been open for an hour. The front has high acid but mellows out after time in air. The middle and back still retain a hint of sizzle.

Very tight initially, pours a clear ruby in color- nose of decay which then gradually faded into red fruits, vanilla, and earth. On the palate, the wine started off very tight, with a bright fruit acid note dominating. I thought the wine would be way past it's prime, but it pulled through later on in the night, softening and revealing layers of red fruit, earth, and vanilla (the nose matched the taste), with a driving fruit acid back bone.

very good cabernet, with almost a leather finish - but on the light side. It didn't stand up to well as the evening progressed, suggesting that it was past its prime.

Took home this bottle from our room at the Bernardus Lodge. Perfect drinking right now, medium bodied, stil a little baby fat on it, didn't taste any harsh edges. Delicious after sitting open for 30 minutes. Wish I had more as an everyday cab grab.

$10 at Cost Plus, 12.0%, inconveniently tall and heavy. This bottling was sold off to Cost Plus well below the normal price, and would have constituted the 1998 Merinus. Nose is pure tobacco leaf, palate is more tobacco plus pencil lead, followed by a twinge of harshness at the back of the throat. Medium bodied, fine but persistent tannin. Despite the "classic" Bordeaux aromas, this is pretty intense and doesn't really taste underripe. I can't decide whether this will be great or dead in ten years, but it's a moot point as this was my last bottle. A very good value if you like the style. Very Good.

Lovely dark red. Pure raspberries on the nose. Chocolate, pine needles, red fruits. Served by Tim Sinclair at his dinner party.
