Opens with pleasant, whild not explosive, scents of cigar box and stall perfume with cherries, discreet currants and some lilies. Quite tart mothfeel even though the tannins are fully melted, some nice cherry and cassis along with some lighter berries, tobacco and a bit of tobacco leaves. Good but it was definitely time to drink, quite sparse, a little disparate at times but still classic and good in the expected sleak style.

zeer donkerrode kleur, inkt, aroma van zwart fruit, cassis, evenveel donker fruit in de mond, matige afdronk, weinig aciditeit, wel tannines, opvallend goed

Thought this was drinking very well. Classic Bordeaux IMO. This wine has now shed most of the fruit, and was herbal and tannic, very similiar to 1996, 1999 and other 2002's I have consumed. Wonderful aromatics and fans of the more herbal, and restrained styles should appreciate this wine. Not a complex wine, but still very nice. Score range (87-88)

From 375. Popped and poured. Lots of cedar on nose. Earthy, leathery tangy cherry flavors. Fairly biting tannins on clipped finish. Pretty austere, the fruit is fading.

Dusty earth, red cherry and leather on the nose. Palate is somewhat hollow with earth, cherry and a touch of sweetness. Mid-palate is soft with a medium finish. Nothing to scream about, but not a bad bottle.

Mocha, berry and dust on the promising nose. The initial palate delivers less, however - dilute fruit flavors with a bit of an off-putting sour note. This bottle has not always been stored at cellar temperature so there's a chance there's a slight oxidation issue, but I don't think so based on taste. Stemmy tannins not overpowering so this may be starting to reach drinkability. Decent length on the finish.
With a little time, the fruit becomes a bit rounder and more enjoyable, but there's certainly better performing Bordeaux at this price range.
A few hours later, this had not gotten any better. Fruit fading slightly, tannins still in force, and the harsh astringent qualities more pronounced.

Decanted for a couple of hours. Very deep colour almost black. Aroma of fruits and cedar. Got better over dinner but didn't impress. Adequate drinking but not a memorable bottle.

Decanted 1 hr. The scent of cedartree & perfume developed gradually in the glass, very margaux on the nose. A bit hollow fruit already, some bitterness efter 30 mins in the glass. Reasonably long taste but not very powerful. Nice and pleasant Margaux but no superstar.

Initially showed a great nose and nice fruit on the palate. As it opened up some tar and tobacco notes started showing up with the fruit. By the end of dinner the fruit had pretty much disappeared on the palate but the nose was still quite perfumed. Interesting bottle.

A bit green and bitter. Typical, I think, of the vintage.

Medium body. A dusty taste with cherry. Not a lot of character and did not really open over time.

Initially a little muted but opened up to a dark brooding tar-like structure. Mocha, cassis and some balsamic. Tannins still a little harsh.
