Purple with ruby highlights. Currents, oak, and a touch of spice on the nose. Medium bodied, jammy blackberries, black cherries, grainy tannins, smoke, pepper, a bit of heat, and a medium finish. A little less fruit than I normally like in a Mendoza Malbec, but a good value under $10-$12.

Stunning blackberry color. Improved after opening up somewhat. Dark fruit laced with white pepper notes. Tasted fine with grilled filets but nothing unique.

Malbec Tasting: Enjoyable and even a little bit interesting. In a blind tasting of 8 Malbecs it was in the top half of the pack for everyone. It was the favourite for a couple of my guests, but in about 3rd place for me as I thought it lacked a little excitement. However, for the price point it's a solid value. The nose had an appealing earthiness with the fruit that none of the others really had, though it was a little reticent. My notes on the taste were "bright and dusky, smooth, tangy backend". This bottle was a gift, but I could see buying more recent vintages of this based on my experience.

Raspberry, strawberry fruit, pepper and tobacco on the nose. Well balanced tannins on the palate with a juicy fruit forward flavour, bumbleberry pie and hints of chocolate. Medium long finish - may age another year but is at its peak now. A great value New World Malbec!!

Very nice, decanted before dinner, First glass opened a little watery but smooth, nice nose but lacing in finish for my taste. As it sat around it opened up nicely and became quite enjoyable. I think it just needed to open more. I'm going back for more to have on hand.

Mr. Molesworth was bang on with this one, it was full bodied but the balancing acidity and freshness made this a winner for sure, very tasty and AWESOME QPR - Dark, full bodied with a nose of plum, blueberry, spice and vanilla, very well made, great structure, intense yet elegant, dry, sweet on the palate with excellent length, very nice! (90 Points).

Pretty enjoyable Malbec for the price. (Paid $12.79). Inky black in color. Notes of blackberries, chocolate and spice. I get a hint of plum or blueberry on the finish, maybe a hint of tobacco. Overall, this is quite enjoyable, especially for the price. Very Good

Wicked mouthful of blackberry, and blueberry on the attack. WAAAYY too much residual sugar lends a grape soda taste. A bit of a bitter back end kind sends the finish askew.
I would never have pegged this as a Malbec on a blind taste. More like a low end Shiraz. Big, fruit juicy.
Overall for the price point not a bad week nighter.

A fine $10 wine. Concentrated black fruit. That's it. Fine for a party or just a summer's night spent grilling. Would also be a good cigar wine. If you are looking for intellectual stimulation, this is not your wine, but if you are looking for an inexpensive bottle to keep around the house, this is a good candidate.

This has improved from my initial thoughts 3 months ago. I gave it about 20 minutes of air in the glass before sipping. Still the same dark purple color. The worst part of the edgy bitterness have largely dissipated though there still remains a health bite at the end. The black fruits now contribute to a much more rounded mouth feel. There is even a hint of toast through the mid-palate.
While I am still not convinced it is a Top 100 wine per WS, I think it at lease deserves some discussion.
Given how quickly this has changed in bottle, drink now.

This wine is all over the place on the comments I wonder if there is a lot of varation. I loved it, easy to drink with or without food. For $10 a bottle I would buy a case. I would not call it a dark purple or lite (had to look hard to see through it). The finsih was slightly tart. Had good structure and body, I would buy again.

Over dinner with chops. Solid value Malbec. Nice nose of figs, cherries. Palate had nice depth of fruit, with boysenberries, asian spice, hoisen. Good acidity to balance out wine. Not sure how it deserves Top 100 moniker from WS though.

Agree a lot with tb_baltimore, but rate this far lower. Agree wine has strong nose, which is harsh and a bit medicinal/vegetal. Not at all smooth, but fairly harsh on the palate with green vegetal tastes. I am shocked this is one of the WS best value Malbecs...I almost feel my bottle must be flawed because there is no way this can be a 90 point wine. Opened the Jade Mountain Syrah 2005 and that wine blew this Malbec away. Avoid.

Very deep inky purple. Literally left my tongue a deep violet blue!
Rich berry aroma. Definite chocolate note. Body is heavy, almost oily. Enjoyable. Oddly for a wine this stout I'm not sure I'd recommend it with heavy red meats; perhaps a bit too soft for that. would choose this again.

Strong, almost bitter or harsh taste that is less balanced that I would associate with the best Malbecs. But, a good price (13.99/bottle) and a good pairing wine. The nose is blackberry. The taste has parts of bitter chocolate, wood and grass. The traditional Malbec taste is there, but the spice feels more green pepper like. The tannin level feels high and the acidity as well, making it feel tart and a bit similar to a cough syrup. That said, I do like Malbecs and this is a good companion with food. The color is a deep red, the bottle is unfiltered and is 14% alcohol.

Good value. Lacking some of the depth and classis earthiness/roughness I associate with really good Malbecs so less distinct as a Malbec but still a good bottle of wine and much better than most of the other wines you can buy for $13.

The juice was a deep, almost opaque dark burgundy color. A nose of dark colored fruits, tobacco and peppercorn. The flavor is of fairly immature berries, with a strong presence of tobacco and pepper, and hints of bellpepper; finish is astringent. It's not overly stuctured or complex and seems a bit closed. This Malbec needs food with it to balance it's moderate bitterness.

Lots of herb (think dried coriander) & spice (peppercorn) and some cedar on nose balanced with fruity notes. Some tannin adds character and makes this a wine that will serve well with juicy lamb shank or grilled steak. Drink now or over the next 5 years.
