  • The wine was a dull, light to medium ruby color with a fair amount of brick. The exotic nose had raspberries, black cherries, sandalwood, warm baking spices, dried flowers, and just a touch of underbrush. This is barely medium body with fully integrated tannins and good acidity. On the palate the wine gives a quick burst of red to black fruit then slowly transforms to the more savory elements. The finish is the opposite of the palate, the savory elements slowly fade leaving some candied cherry and spice. This is a wonderful, 9 year old Beaujolais, and based on this bottle, I have no fear letting a bottle lay for a couple extra years.

Have to say this is the first time I've had a 9 year old Beaujolais, but based on this bottle, I have no fear letting a few bottle lay for a couple extra years.

  • Definitely past its window. This was once an excellent pop and pour, but this wine has definitely turned. Very "raisin"y and acrid taste. Got through the bottle, but it wasn't pleasant.

  • Sadly, this was heavily corked. Smelled as though grandma's basement was full of moldy cardboard.

  • Stewed strawberry, spice, and earth notes; light- to medium-bodied. Opened up in the glass after about 15 minutes. Mature and mellow. Drink now if you have more.

  • Frankly I was expecting more from this after reading the review in WA. The wine was technically correct with no noticeable flaws. I guess I was looking for more grip and structure. Color: Bright ruby with no signs of age. Nice mouthfeel although not terribly complex with cherry notes and hints of leather. Solid finish. Again, nothing wrong with it but nothing to go nuts about either.

  • This is a harmless Beaujolais that's supposed to be on the "serious" side but falls a bit short in my estimation. It's fruity and even chocolatey on the nose, and it shows a gob of ripe cherries on the palate. It's firmer in the mouth than you'd expect from a Gamay, and it's finely tuned, with something of a racy edge meant for summer drinking. All in all, though, this is merely inoffensive. N.B.: If you're inclined to spill a red on white carpet, this is the one with which to do so. I dropped the better part of a glass, and the wine was thin enough that it came right out with a bit of elbow grease. Thank God it wasn't a Syrah . . . .
