Forest floor, light barnyard, mix of dark sweet spices. Rewarding, if not the most elegant, Mouline nose. Fruit and soil balance on the palate, but does not have the definition or complexity of the best vintages.

Eric's visit to DC - Champagne, White Burgundy, Rhone, Piedmont and etc. (Officina - Washington D.C.): Beautifully mature nose displaying subtle sweet red and black fruit, raspberry jam, blackberry, black cherry, mint, licorice, cola, smoked bacon, black truffle, caramel, tapenade, garrigue, leather, tobacco and mineral. Fully integrated palate, still showing a good amount of sweet black fruit, silky and polished, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long sweet black fruit driven finish with tobacco and tapenade at the end. A classic Cote Rotie, there is nothing modern about this wine. Drinking beautifully, no need to wait.

2017 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/9/2017-11/14/2017 (Villa D’este, Lake Como and Milan): Initially a bit murky after traveling for a few days. With an hour of air, expressive nose displaying raspberry and blackberry jelly, a hint of black cherry, bacon fat, licorice, garrigue and black pepper. Fully integrated yet youthful palate, very finely layered sweet black fruit, silky and polished, perfect amount of acidity and earthy mineral, and a seamless finish with blackberry and bacon fat at the end. This is a classic mature La La that is drinking beautifully. Considering the current prices of the 78s and the 85s, perhaps the wine to seek.

At Balon Restaurant in Hong Kong - Old LaLas rarely disappoint and this was no exception. It possessed the richness that I am accustomed to in these wines - 37 years later and an 'off' vintage at that. Lovely sweetness that suggests maturity but without any hint that it's fading.

Very dark. Served blind and I was amazed that it was 36 years old. Very dark color...Earth, bacon fat, spice and 'animal' notes....excellent acidity. Quite enjoyable.

Northern Rhone blind dinner. Several interesting transformations during dinner, but not necessarily bringing lots of pleasure... Primary nose with hint of plastic to start, not super expressive. Very mature on the palate and became stinkier with saline hints. Long finish.

Smoke, licorice, sweet red berries, herbs, pepper, truffle and bacon fat aromatics are on full display. The nose is more interesting and complex than the medium bodied palate, which finishes in soft, delicate, sweet and tart red cherries. This was much better than expected due to the age and the vintage.

Popped and enjoyed over 3 hours. OMFG. What a treat. The nose is completely captivating, earthy, smoky, barnyard, spice, violets, gamy, bloody. The color is deep and dark, uniform to the rim. Absolutely no bricking at all. Powerful, balanced flavors of black fruits, olives, iron and meat. The finish was amazing, closing with a hit of pepper. A truly amazing and ethereal experience. To be able to enjoy this wine was a gift.

A dep ruby color and a nose of black olives, scorched earth, violets and meat. Loved it. Great depth on the palate, exceptional balance. More olives, rare meat, and white pepper. Mulitlayered, greatly textured, yet not heavy. Hitting on all cylinders. At peak and with time in hand. No reason to wait though. Great wine. 95 pts.

Dusty and beginning to fade. But still deep dark fruit and rounded spice notes.
