Decanted for about an hour. Big fruit aroma (mixed berry jam) as pouring it into the decanter. In the glass, aromas of plum, blackberry, earth, mushroom, and tobacco. On the palate, dark fruits are there up front, followed by some earthy flavors and a tinge of sweet tobacco(?) before the acid and mildly chalky tanins come in at the end.

Upon opening big whiff of dark berry. As it settled into the glass, the wet barnyard funk dominated. About 3 hours in, fruit started to show pretty well. Blueberry and plum up front, earthy, barnyard fell to back, but still there.

We have LOVED this wine for many years but my comment today is "stick a fork in it, it's done". Very disappointed in it today compared to prior tastings. Won't buy this vintage again. Waiting on something younger to try. It's been a good run while it lasted.

plenty enjoyable at almost 20 years on. similar bottle-to-bottle from a year ago. this was my last bottle and not sure it's worth holding this any further.

reaching the end. still drinkable and enjoyable. finish off inventory within the next year, tops. make sure to stand upright for a while first (or decant).

California Dreamin' - Double Blind - Zin/PS/Cab - 70's - 2009: Brief Notes - part of a larger blind tasting. In a Petite Sirah flight with 72 Stags' Leap, 73 Freemark Abbey, and 08 Turley Hayne, this tied for WOTF with the Turley. Perfectly integrated with a new mix of fruit and secondary characteristics. Tannins in check, and a solid finish. Drink now if you have any - in a perfect spot.

An aged PS from Dry Creek, this wine is truly outstanding. Excellent nose, with bright fruit and full of Dry Creek character not found in wines of this age. Over delivers for the price point.

Spec-friggin-tacular. Some sediment so decanted. Otherwise PnP. Strong leather, olive, with a hint of cedar and aged tobacco. Some fruit mid-palate - blueberry and tart cherry. Nice finish, though not too long. Sweet tannins. Peak drinking. Flavor subsided noticeably 1 hour after opening. Much more leather than my previous bottle a few months ago though less fruit. Too bad it was my last bottle.

double decanted and then went to the restaurant. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate/heavy sediment in the bottle. The body is medium/full. The wine finishes long. The tannins were still moderately strong. Good flavor, enjoyable.

wasn't sure about this at first...needs significant time to breathe, and is best with food. earthy, mushroom-y qualities on its own and the spice/depth only shows when paired with food (meats/pizza/etc in particular). turned out to be an enjoyable bottle. be ready for lots of sediment.

Earthy with subtle spice emerging after a significant breathing time. Sustains depth well past opening and decanting to be enjoyed at a slow pace.

Opened nicely after double decanting well in advance of drinking. Sustainability of spice and florals through its end.
