Wyncroft Winery Visit (Michigan): From a cool vintage in which some of the grapes were allowed to hang into November, this pale Riesling diplays notes of grapefruit/citrus, lime zest and unripe stone fruit with underlying sulphur and mineral nuances. The fruit on the palate is very nice- pear and stone fruit, with quince and mineral qualities as well. There's good acidity keeping it balanced and lively. We revisited it later on and it had warmed slightly, becoming a bit more rich with a nice honeycomb and pear blossom qualities, but maintaining balance on account of the underlying acid. Impressive. 90-91 pts.

Brought to CWM dinner at Adelle's by VM. First time I've had an Wyncroft Riesling. Some citrus notes, but I thought this was lacking in acidity to push it over the hump for me.

Wyncroft Tasting (New Buffalo, Michigan): Jim opened another bottle of this when he dropped off our wine order. Almost identical notes as before. Very pretty tropical nose. Dry style with crisp apple notes. A little less oily and fat than last time. 89-90 points.

2010 Wyncroft Winery Visit; 3/25/2010-3/26/2010 (Wyncroft Winery, Buchanon, Michigan): I tried this at the winery with Jim Lester and a friend. We had originally ordered some of the 2008 a few months ago but Jim thought the 2009 was better after he bottled it in January 2010. Therefore, he asked us to try it when we visited and said we could have our choice of the 2008 or 2009. We chose the 2009. 2009 was a cool year in Southwest Michigan. The grapes for this wine are clone 10 from the Wachau valley. This was a fresh, young, clean and vibrant wine. The nose had mango and passion fruit aromas. It was a light clear straw color. It had steely acidity and a crisp finish. Notes of tart apple and stone fruit. 90 points.

2015 Wyncroft Winery Visit (Michigan) (7 potentially 90+ wines with 1 classic 95 pointer); 8/29/2015-9/1/2015 (Wyncroft Winery, South Haven, Michigan): Tasted from bottle at the winery. Despite being a cooler year, this wine was ripe. The grapes were picked in November at 19.8 brix and Jim chapitalized the wine. 12.8% alcohol. Solid acidity. These vines were planted in 1989-1990. Gold color. Fine minerality at first with grapefruit notes. Once it warmed up it showed some crushed grape skin flavors as well. Bone dry and expansive on the palate. 89-90 points.
