  • Opens up with a nose of funk and dirt that takes some time to blow off. Old-school Hermitage in the elegant, lighter style driven by high acidity and flavors of iron, meat broth, and rustic, dark fruit. Has a wild rugged side but also a floral side that places it in between Cornas and Cote Rotie, but it is indeed Hermitage. With Niels and some lamb for Tuesday lunch.

  • Very elegant wine. Initially guessing Côte-Rôtie (when the wine was cooler), this certainly has a feminin, airy side to it, but with more air and temperature, this gains weight, showing more iron, blood & beef. Mature, but in no way declining.

  • It's mature, still with plenty of dark fruit, and properly leathery and meaty. It benefits from some air to bring out the tannins, enhancing the finish. As has been noted, the acidity is prominent, and I suspect will become more so as the fruit fades. A food wine. I think I will not wait too long before drinking my remaining bottles. g

  • Popped and poured. From auction. No seepage.
Still quite a brilliant garnet, no bricking to mention.
N:some reduction, pepper, lots of freshness.
P:Sour cherry, meaty and savoury component, a touch of fern finishes a bit astringent with some tannic grip.
    Good balance, hold.

  • In a great spot here. Classic Hermitage with flavors of grilled meats, boullion and still plenty of dark fruit. Masculine in style, true to it's origin. Firm structure and good grip. This has a decade to go. UPDATE: wow, this is absolutely singing 4 days later. I had about 1/5 og a bottle tucked away in the fridge and by now there's a more feminine side to this wine, just like a Cote Rotie this is packed with flavors of bacon fat and there is even violets on the nose. Great, great stuff.

  • Leathery and vegetable aromas into smoked bacon on the palate. Fresh but quite light.

  • A great bottle of mature Syrah from the Northern Rhone. Feminine style resembling Cote Rotie, there is raspberry fruit combined with game, leather, mushrooms and meaty flavors. Quite good acidity which makes the wine lively and not heavy, maybe that's why I like it so much. Excellent wine.

  • Leather spice and dark fruits initially after 3 hours without decanting this wines nose leaps into life. Savoury notes of smoky bacon and dark cherried fruits come through. There is life and vigour on the nose. On entry damson but a touch of tca which is a wee bit offputting. Secondary notes of savoury and a spicy finish. Prominant acidity and tannin make this a food wine. Not completely balanced but a long spicy finish with no heat.
