World's Greatest - Night I (Eleven Madison Park): Nose is supremely elegant, clean, and pure. The '88 is the most expressive out of the flight and has some soily notes coming through. Fresh Strawberry and raspberry fruit. This is spectacular. This finish on each of these these Jayer Cros Ps is like a French kiss. With more time the '88 has serious vosne spice too.

Still dense soil tones with hints of licorice and dark fruit. Composed nose required 30-45 minutes to open. Palate intact with austere dark fruit, dry soil notes and hints of jerky. However the finish is starting to trend towards acid, and acid alone. This bottle was past peak but still with some remaining years ahead of it

Dinner with RH, SC (Pak Lok): Ruby with bricking rims. Wonderful mix of red, black fruits, Vosne spices and earth. Defining purity, excellent length and clean finish.

Served from magnum. The comment I heard most often from other tasters was "so young" or "so tight." One doesn't hear that too often about a 20 year old Burgundy. This wine is lush, rich, and sexy with layers of opulent fruit. But it does take some time to come around, it's a wine to enjoy over hours. A treat, to put it mildly. A+

Burgundy Gems in Oregon (Southern Oregon): Remarkable aromatics, very spicy and feminine. Flavors were more dense and powerful, nice combination of red and dark fruit with lots of energy. Acidity and tannins seem to give this wine great texture and helped build layers of flavors. This wine barely changed over the course of dinner, becoming slightly more subtle. I expect this will have a long life ahead of it. interestingly, the restaurant owner was hesitant about selling this bottle because others he had sold recently had not shown particularly well!

1988 H. Jayer Cros Parantoux - Today, this wine is markedly superior to the 1990 (and costs about 1/2 as much). Simply the greatest Burgundy I've ever tasted (to date). Like silk in the mouth. More resolved than the 1990. Perfect balance with acidity in perfect harmony with the ample fruit. Some secondary flavours deepen the complexity. Youthful appearance. Unbelievable wine. I can't stress the balance enough - every component was in perfect synch. Will not decline anytime soon. 98+ pts.

Medium-full bodied pinot with faint garnet edge. Forward aroma of lack cherry and briar. Silky soft on the pallate with sweet cherry flavors and a looong finish. Beautiful! 11/00

Dark soil and nice funk. Good depth here. Slightly clunky on the edges but nice weight and complexity overall.

Burgundy Trip - Day 1 - Lunch (La Colline du Colombier): A wonderful wine to round off a sensational line-up. Intense wine but more open and floral than the Echezeaux. This will go on for another few decades with ease.
