Great nose with lots of power, red fruit flavors, old leather, underwood, and ripe fruit. Good acidity on the palate with red cherry notes, forest floor, orange zest, and leather nice finish. A very good wine, but for Bonnes Mares I'm expecting a bit more complexity.

Served alongside 96 Jadot BM. This not as good imo. Red fruited..Candied nose. Elegant style. Doesn't have the structure of the Jadot. Still enjoyable, but would not cellar much longer.

An elegant, weighty Burg. Forest floor and mushroom notes, some smoked meats and tart red berries. Leather and spice underneath that. Chewy texture. Impressive balance. Very well done.

From magnum. Extremely good - rich red fruit and forest floor nose, remarkably red fruity palate with delicious poise and medium length. In a great place.

Agree with what Burgnick said. At a great place right now, should maintain its quality for a couple more years but no need to hold off. Rich, balanced, clearly Grand Cru quality.

Groffier did an exceptional job in 98. The wine is pure and elegant with grand cru weight. It does not have the 98 heat. This has just entered its drinking window with a long life ahead. 92-93

Soft and elegant with dark fruit, menthol, tea, wild berries and herbs. This is drinking so beautifully with nice balance. The wine is at its peak now. 93+

Surprisingly young ripe fruit with fine acids on the finish. However, comes off as largely one dimensional, albeit performing above expectations on that dimension

really nice, I had had a few bottles of this four or so years ago and remember them being great, one of my bridge buddies (Jeannie) liked it a ton and so when I found another bottle i picked it up and we drank it over bridge last night, this had softened A LOT, was still really good but I definitely would DRINK UP ASAP, full / rounded and smooth, true to the Bonnes Mares style but aging to the point where it might collapse soon if not consumed near term

Softer and less distinct than the last bottle in 2012, which at the time seemed magnificently in the moment and, seen now through the lens of this bottle, clearly was. But, still a great bottle.

At times a very good nose with dark red fruit, warm spice, and damp dark earth. Palate is faint plum, light spice, and moderate tannin. Dry and somewhat short finish. Clearly good underlying material, but seems as if more could have been done with it. Drink now

Very nice bottle. Started out with slightly harsh tannins, but they diminished after a half hour or so, leaving a smooth classic Grand Cru. Great though slightly muted nose, medium finish. Not as much vibrancy as I would like, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

had two bottles of this in the last two weeks, first was really on with big fruit and an overlay of spice / subtle dusty tannin... just what burgs are all about... second was disappointing as the fruit had disappeared and the solo spice came off as dry and a tad harsh... first bottle is 94 and second was 89... 92 score is an average... i've had great bottles of this wine before and also some that didnt' measure up... so be it

quick update on the bottle note from last nite, gassed the last quarter of the bottle and had on nite two, oak had become completely dominant - bummer, may impact how long i wait on the last bottles

beautiful wine, color was on the purplish side with very slight bricking, nose was modest on popping and didn't get a lot bigger over time, palate was luscious and rich with dark fruit on the attack and minerals coming in strong on mid palate and the finish especially, rich but still with some acid and not overdone... real crowd pleaser for sure and would be a great way to introduce friends to burgundy, shared this with Dylan and Wanda out from Pennsylvania, seems at peak but probably fine for another 5-7 years

Poetry in a glass. Velvety texture and aromas of roses and earth finishing with a blast of harmonious tannins. Worth waiting for and maybe close to peaking.

Tasted double blind. Popped and poured. Meaty aromas with lots of mature black fruit and animale character. Although still highly structured, I thought this older than a 1998, with the earthy elements more dominant over the fruit.

WineFanatic Grand Cru Burgundy Offline (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind - Medium red with a bricking hue moving towards the rim. Wow, what a crazy good nose! Right from the first sniff this grabbed my attention and never let go. A pronounced, pure and elegant nose of mature red pinot fruit, raspberry, hints of sweet tobacco and caramel, floral and earth. In the mouth this was pure, silky and velvety. Fully resolved with wonderfully balanced acidity and a powerful, yet light weight and graceful texture. A long mineral finish. I guessed Chambolle…could this be anything else? This is drinking perfectly right now. Outstanding.

1998 Burgundy Grand Crus - Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore, Chapitre de la Printemps (Harbour Grill, Hilton Hotel): This was awesomely good - best wine of the tasting by some distance. Beautiful, very Chambolle nose. Open, lively, almost incredible in its outpouring of earth, flowers, spice, meat, lovely mineral scents, orange peel, truffles and high-toned fruit. The palate was every bit as good. Lots of depth, some lovely fruit, with pure, high-toned cherry expressions and a wealth of buried mineral. Again, this was a wine that seemed almost primary, one that needs time to develop, but on the night, it really struck me with its clean freshness and just lovely purity of red fruit expression. Absolutely delicious. Finish was nice and long too - juicy and fresh, yet meaty and minerally with plenty of depth. A gorgeous wine that will get even better with time. Watch this space in 3-4 years' time.

Bottle 1 was corked. Fortunately we had a back-up. Aromatically very intense and compelling. Nice mixture of concentrated red fruit, minerality, coffee bean and toast. Palate is infused and quite concentrated. This is no New World wine even if it is quite polished, more so than I would expect from the vintage. Probably the most delineation of flavors of the 3. Excellent intensity start to finish. Still has some strong tannins toward the back but the strength of the wine is more than enough to push through them. This is impressive (now I'm all hopped up to try the Beze) and has a substantial future to it where it could rise to greater heights. Superb rendition of the vineyard. Would go with 93+

very nice, but not at all typical of Bonnes Mares. More fruit forward and sweeter without the elegance of Musigny or the smokiness of St. Denis. Very nice but not nuanced. Closer to a Chambertin in style

This bottle is tasted in Tokyo and has some variation from the last bottle. It is more closed, more introvert. Still very complex and I can find some sandlewood note. In avreage it is not as good as last bottle.

Clear, very clean cork. dark cherry ruby in the centre with light ruby rim. It is like a perfume on the nose. Very complex and superb fragrant - ripe plum & wild red berry-scented. mushroom , minerals, and a little bit rapsberry & coffee bean note. Medium - Soft & sweet tannin, opulence, silky texture and balanced acidity and mouthfeel on the pallat. Very long finish. It can be keep for 2 more years.

Huge fruit taste of red berries but not so overwhelming that it spoiled a great balance of acid and tannins. Very soft mouthfeel and long, long finish. Nose was so good that I would have been happy just sniffing and taste did not disappoint.
