Showing great. Drank my other 5 bottles too soon that's for sure. Certainly not showing it's age this great wine should last for another 5 years at least possibly 10 years. Better the second night.

The nose has losened up but otheriwise the wine is exactly the same as last time so here is a paste. Its uncanny my hand written note is almost word for word as the last time I had it a year ago. Dark fruited nose with some smokey notes and roasted black fruit. A hint of game. The palate is also tight but shows some roasted meat hints, brighter fruits, a little baking spice and a hint of green. Young and brawny. Nice but needs time to loosen up.

Tight wine. Blueberries and eucalyptus in the nose. Dark fruit on the palate. Very primary, a bit herbal and certainly backward. This is a big wine, but it needs a little time in the cellar to fully show its potential. 92+

Dark sweet cherry with a little tart red fruit to balance. Some earthy tar. Not too sweet considering the warm site. Could use a little more acidity to balance but still a very good wine.

Chablis Tasting (Mykha's, Glen Ellyn, Illinois): Opened by Otis. Not decanted. Purple black color. Bitter fruit notes of cassis and plum with some woody cedar notes. Medium to full body. A little alcohol on the finish or it would have scored higher. I can see this wine gaining a point or 2 with some time or a decant. 90 points.

This bottle is much different than one from a year ago. This was dominated by smoke, leather, meat, earth with little real fruit flavors. What happened during the year? A real disapointment compared to the last bottle.

This wine, as all the wines in the tasting, had a good four hours with the bottle open before we started to taste. There was dark fruit, game and pepper on the nose with a touch of herbal and floral in the background. The palate followed suit and added some smokiness. This wine showed very well and won wine of the night for the group and was my top wine of the night, as well. I did not get any heat at all tonight. This might account for the fact that the parts seemed to really be coming together and not competing for me on this night.

Open a full day. Has a residual chill on it from the cellar so just a bit cooler than room temp. As with my last note, there is some moderate heat in the aromatic, which mixes with the pepper and some sage. The palate is better than the aromatic, with a good dose of pine, citrus acidity, soy and smoke. There is a good size dollop of sage/herb in this wine, which I like, may not be for some others who may prefer a syrah with more blue and black notes without the herbal quality. The finish shows dark chocolate and the citrusy notes from the acid. In sum, with the heat and the presence of the citrus and brushy notes, feels more to me like separate parts that are competing for attention than all working together. There is plenty of acid and fruit here to allow the wine to age so no rush.

What a gorgeous wine. The nose is overwhelmingly of blueberry, lilac, and cedar. On the palate, roast meat, pepper, blackberry and forest floor are pronounced. The finish is long and sleek, with a caressing amount of heat on the back of the throat. Wonderful.

Open for about 90 mins. I finished the 2008 Roar Rosella's last night and I have to say I like that wine better. This wine for me lack some of the stuffing and deeper elements that the Rosella's seemed to show. Here this Garys' shows a softer, more gentle side, with smoke, some gamy notes and a juicy side to the mid palate. The finish though is quite soft and there is some heat in the aromatic. I'll see if the wine adds something if it sits in the bottle overnight.......with a day more of slow ox, the wine has smoothed out more, has some deeper cherry and riper berry flavors, along with iron and some citrus. There is a good core of fruit and some intensity but it just doesn't measure to the Rosella's and the higher alcohol is also a feature (in the aromatic) here, despite the same level listed at 15.4 as the Rosella's, and the bigger ripeness leaves me disappointed. I'll try another bottle in a year and see if it shows better.

excellent mix of smoke, balance, fruit, alcohol. the alcohol is this wine's challenge but it pulls it off smewhat like a good amarone, 100% probability for repurchase

A bit clunky and round right now. Chocolately notes from the oak. Not seeing the parker's 95P.

Really big and fruity. Pretty good now, but needs some time for the fruit to come back into ballance with the mouth feel.
