Over the hill. Black red color with clear meniscus. Nose - prune, dried fruit, blackberry liquour and sweet cherry - almost port like. Full body, integrated tannins and medium acidity. Not as overtly sweet as nose - good structure - not a flabby wine. 85+/- Tonight. Won't age more than 10 years (or buy from cooler vintages).

Tannins and acidity still pronounced. They’re more in balance than a couple years ago. Nice layers of cocoa, dried figs, black cherries, blueberries and toast. Short but nice finish.

87+/- Better than last bottle but not what I would expect - wine has good structure but fruit is too prominent and ripe/sweet. I'm not a hater of CA wines - I had the '01 Symmetry with 10 years of age on it in 2011 and loved it. Bottles purchased new in 2011 and stored in cool cellar. I rated this highly up through 2017.
87+/- is scored to my palate (at this age, bottle variation is going to happen so not surprising variation in scores).

Pulled from a pristine 55 degree Eurocave where it has resided for the last eight years. Despite recent unfavorable reports that this wine may be fading, is a “fruit bomb”, or possibly unbalanced, I will only respond that IMHO this wine is hitting on all cylinders at almost 12 years. I’ve enjoyed a number of bottles of the 2007 Symmetry and this still checks all my criteria: BALANCED in terms of fruit and structure; INTENSE color, aroma and flavor profile; long LENGTH at the finish; and great COMPLEXITY in terms of primary fruit, secondary notes from oak aging, and tertiary characteristics pertaining to ageability. Agreed, we all have different preferences and palates; however, I can only opine this wine is still drinking well, and although unlikely to improve with further cellaring, should drink well for another 2-3 years.

Dark ripe red fruit. The tannins and acidity are still a little strong for a wine of this age. As blends go, I had higher expectations for the press this had in 2009.

Time has not treated this well. Rated 93 in 2017 - PNP (and enjoyed over 2 nights with limited improvement). Dark black color. Port like nose - alcohol was very evident. Sweet cherry, burnt sugar on the nose. Palate was similar, with port like flavors. Maybe an off bottle (I hope). Wine had good acidic structure and tannins with a long finish. Will drink one of other bottles in next few weeks in case this was an off bottle. Maybe a wine to drink in it's first 10 years? 84+/-

As a blend, I compare it to BV Tapestry, as it is somewhat similarly priced. In my opinion, it really does not favorably compare. Drank a bit upon opening, and then decanted and tried periodically over next 3 hours. Finally served after 3 hours. Would not bother with again. For me, I would stick with Tapestry

Hard to believe it's been over five years since the last time I enjoyed this. As it's aged it's really gained some nuance, floral aromatics, and complexity. Fruits are transitioning toward red, vanilla has turned to mocha, earthiness has morphed to tobacco and mint chocolate, and structure has tamed. Lots of layers. Drinking very well and age has definitely been kind given there was plenty of tannin and acidity to support cellaring. I think this has another 3-5 years of enjoyment assuming it's cellared properly. Enjoy with food. This was an exceptional vintage and effort for this producer.

I will not formerly score as the bottle is sitting on my desk and I enjoyed ~ 2 months ago with grilled steaks. I don't drink a lot of "new world" Bordeaux blends but I loved this wine. Glad I have 3 bottles left as this has aged very well - fruit was still there and the wine had impeccable balance. 93+ from memory, if not a point higher.

Decanted for 1.5 hours before enjoyed with grilled NY strips- while I rated this 93 points ~ 1 year ago, I'd give this 93-94 range tonight. Great mix of California fruit with Bordeaux type complexity. Dark red color (looks young). Cassis / blackberry, tobacco & cedar on the nose & palate. Full body but high acids keep this from being flabby with a nice tannic grip on the long finish. 93-94 range. Need to buy some more of current vintages for the cellar.

Decanted for 2 hours and then poured back into bottle and drank ~ 2 hours later. Initially 91+/- range but with airtime this was very enjoyable. Cassis, black currants, cedar on the nose. Medium+ body with solid acid / fruit / tannin balance. Black cherry, blackberry, charcoal, black currants on palate with a long finish. Great with grilled steaks. Would buy again. This is my second vintage of Symmetry and this is on par with the '01 that I enjoyed with steaks and about 10 years of age from the vintage date.

A blend of mostly Cab Sav, with about 10% Malbec, and a tiny bit of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot in there as well
Super dense and dark purple to the eye, great nose
On the palate simply delicious - didn't take notes, but I recall blueberry, blackcurrant, but red fruit present as well, and even a citrusy quality to the acid.
Medium fine tannins were smooth and round - PERFECT balance - no alcohol making itself an unwelcome star, and the oaking was just right!
Gorgeous medium long finish

Always an elegant, classy and soft styled Meritage that's not from Napa! A perfect example of a Sonoma winery that can produce a great "Bordeaux lookalike" in a classic New World, fruit forward style. Lots of red and black fruit flavors blended in a creamy, very approachable style. There's plenty of spicy cassis and red currant, cherry, plum and blackberry underscored with vanilla that evolves to chocolate on the finish.

Brilliant wine! This was right up my alley. I loved this. Decanted for one hour. Dark deep red color. Sweet nose of flowers and honey with blueberry pie filling and some herbal notes. Sweet blueberry and blackberries covered in honey, flower pedals, and cracked black pepper on the palate. Notes of leather, minerals and tobacco as well. Some purists will say "fruit bomb", but there is plenty of backbone and structure.. I will definitely buy this again when I can afford it. Bravo Rod Strong!

Thursday Walk Around Tasting 9/22/2011 (WineStyles Columbia, SC): This is one of those Sonoma County wines that may even earn a small amount of respect from those wine drinkers on the other side of the big pond. It is a big wine, but still very harmonious. Most of the qualities we expect from a premium offering are here. It has that rich, layered, structured feel of low yield vines. It definitely benefits from the blending of the Bordeaux varieties. The multidimensional nose starts with violets and other floral qualities, continues with spicy dark fruit, and some vanilla. Cassis is the word with the fruit, with plenty of blackberry preserve, dark cherry, and blueberry. This is a big mouth full of taste. Some spicy dark chocolate with the silky tannins. Ready now but will only improve with age. Very nice touch with the oak, some of it medium to medium to heavy toast. Balanced and well rounded. Every taste component wants to act individual, while still working together. Pretty heavy duty finish with chocolate, tobacco, graphite, minerals, vanilla, and dark cherry.

This is an outstanding Cabernet based Meritage. It opened immediately upon pouring with a perfume of blackberries, cassis, black cherry, and light vanilla. A vibrant, full bodied wine that is soft but still exhibits a nice balanced tannic backbone with plenty of structure. Although we decanted it, it was totally unnecessary. Impressive long finish with overtures of dark chocolate filled cherries.

Opened an hour before consuming - drank over three hours. Initial sniff showed smoky meat and flint followed by dark red fruit. Lots of Bordeaux character here with pepper, cassis and spice all over the place. The nose makes me think ribs with a smoky BBQ sauce. There is a sweet note on the palate with with lots of licorice, thyme and nice tannins. Definitely New World, but in a well done way. Not too sweet or over the top. Great length and lots of ageing potential. Very big.

Wine Festival Tasting Room, quick notes. Huge rich nose of blueberry, black current, dark cherry, and some spice. Big and fruit forward on the palate, showing black cherry, dark berries, anise, and black pepper. Some heat evident on the palate. Medium finish with lots of acidity.

Inky purply-dark red color. Nose of cedar, smoke & wet leaves. (Could possibly have a hint of TCA?? See if the funk blows off.) Funk didn't blow off... 2nd pour confirmed it, bottle corked. What a bummer.
