Still so young in character developed in the glass to show some secondary characteristics but mainly glorious derp red and black fruits with rich savoury length - gorgeous stuff

Barely any signs of ageing. Clear garnet and no bricking. Vibrant nose of cherry, rose water, wood smoke and cassis. If anything, this is still a little closed on the palate of soft raspberry and red currant. Slightly astringent, dusty tannins. Outrageously smooth. Lovely lingering lavender and balsamic finish.
Having said all that... I expected more. Foolish to start with high expectations, but I never got the "wow" factor from this that keeps so many addicted to great Burgundy. Hopefully I'll find that magic moment down the line. 91-92.

Terrifically young - soft rich strawberry fruit some secondary notes but still deepish red opened up over the evening to show some sous bois and dark ripe cherry notes surely loads of development to come

92-93 pts

This was a very interesting contrast to the Morot. This had darker fruit, more breadth to it, and hit areas of the palate that the Beaune didn't reach, but paradoxically it still felt more constricted because of the heavier amount of tannin here. It had a fineness to the grain that you could almost call silky except for the fact that there's a hell of a lot of it and silk is never so heavy. I always find Barthod's wines among the most structured in Chambolle and this was a good demonstration why. In years that have less ripe fruit than '99 it can seem like it will take forever before they even become drinkable. This is certainly backwards with exoskeletal tannin, but the fruit is penetrating enough that it's quite drinkable just the same, even if not as friendly as the Beaune.

A striking wine of beautiful, ethereal perfumes and fine lacy texture. A violet aromatic permeates the nostrils that signals the wines origin is probably either from Volnay or Chambolle. There is a nice waft of pine needle sap and the cherry fruits intermingle perfectly with a little earthy development. It gains in the glass and has a dark heart laced with aniseed. The finish bristles with fine acidity morphing the cherries from Maraschino to sour.

Burghound comes to London (One Great George Street): More advanced than the preceding vintages, richer, rounder, but with that highty distinctive blackcurrant pastille and briariness quality - lovely [92]

Saturday Evening Dinner (L'Autre Pied London): Dinner L'Autre Pied-Popped and poured as we decided one more bottle couldn't hurt.Dark color without any lightening around edges, very jammy red fruit nose, a touch sweet, very smooth inthe mouth, jammy berry flavor with very nice balance of fruit and acidity, everyone thought this was a nice Chambolle showing and that the wine still had years to develop in front of it

Developing, fruity nose with hints of spice. On tha palate the wine has medium body and intensity. The fruit flavours are still there with cherries and strawberries. The acidity is medium to high with smooth tanins and nice legs. Very pleasant to drink now and should improve with a few more years.

Great bottle. Secondary notes yet still relatively youthful and fresh. In the zone for my tastes, but no rush.
