Dinner at RPM (RPM Italian - Chicago, IL): Lots of funk and minerals here. I haven't had much, if any, wine from this producer but enjoyed the mushroomy character. Thought the freshness was really off the charts here, too.

Dinner at RPM (Chicago, IL): Funky and mushroomy in a way that only pinot meunier can achieve. A slight hint of sweetness but lots and lots of baked apple flavours. Fresh, lively, and totally delicious.

Open on the nose with clearly oxidative vinous style. Baked apple, lemon and figs complemented by aromas of vanilla, saffron and chestnuts. Dry, zesty and lively on the palate with gentle and modest moussé. Fruit well alive, but the focus here is on other things. Liquorice, warm spices, earth, mushrooms and chestnuts. Long and nuanced finish. Spectacular stuff. And so affordable. Drink from a Montrachet bowl. Gotta get more!

Ridiculously good wine. Such complexity of fruit and of mineral, such balance, such intensity. The finish is so long, and vibrant with salt and cashews and yellow fruit. Expressive and wonderful.

Again a disappointing wine these wines don't age and don't really improve.

Chartogne-Taillet, Michel Juillot, Dauvissat, Boisson-Vadot, David Clark, Emmanuel Rouget, Fourrier.: The 60 years old vines of -Les Barres- are ungrafted and untouched by phylloxera. Fresh, floral nose, a touch of pear and some toast. On the palate, elegant and medium bodied and bright fruit flavors. Lovely freshness and a long mineral finish. A delicious Pinot Meunier Champagne!
