All beetroot juice, sour cherries, pomegranate and tomato leaf on a mid-weight, juicy frame, starting to age a little. Not a vintage for the long haul (that'll be '17 and '19), it nevertheless has a few years still in it.

Dark in the glass, unsurprisingly dark fruits, dense(ish) texture, touch of wildness about it, with something of the farmyard about it. Has the structure to go for a few years. Nice wine, has piqued my interest to try variety/producer some more.
Really good wine.

Beautiful Nebbiolo. Mid-weight and Burgundian but with good mid-palate concentration, red fruit predominating over black and sweet cherry candy. Roses, but little tar, prominent acidity keeping the ample tannins in check. I'd say much more old school than new. And plenty left for a decade worth of development.
As to whether it's worth the price premium? It's certainly a lovely, well made wine, just my kind of Nebbiolo. But I'd say there are other producers - thankfully - who produce in a style that's in the same postcode. I certainly wouldn't preclude a rebuy, after all life is short and to be enjoyed, but at current prices it doesn't blow ones socks off enough to back the truck up.

3/18/2023 3:32:00 AM - I just blocked collector1855. He's had the entire thread removed about the LDH and is no longer accepting comments on any of his wines. What a douche. Cheers!
8/10/2019 1:27:00 AM - Hi there Tannatastic, according with Julio Sáenz LRA enologist, there is no differences between red and "125 anniversary" capsules, coming both from the same elaboration. No mention if they have detected any different evolution at the winery. He had no idea why you detect a quick evolution in the red ones. Afraid this doesn't help too much to resolve such a mystery. Cheers!
1/19/2019 12:22:00 PM - Hi Macaujames - yeah, I've got quite a few vintages of Clos de Gamot, and I tasted the 2015 with the proprietor at the domaine only a couple of months ago. With plenty of air right now (his had been opened in the fridge for a couple of days) it is incredibly fruity with supple tannins).
But more importantly, all of Clos de Gamot and Clos St Jean wines will probably outlive us. They have a phenomenal cellaring potential. I think this is because they are still made in very traditional way - the 2008 last year was fantastic for a 9e bottle at the cellar door, and could live decades. The Cuvee des Vignes Centenaires is also a fantastic (if very rare) bottle of wine.
1/18/2019 11:43:00 PM - I see you have Clos de Gamot 2015 in your cellar. I have just had a bottle and it was juvenile. It needs laying down 5-10 years.
