  • 2018 Jean-Marc Vincent Santenay Les Vignes Denses

JM Vincent is the domaine to buy and drink in Cote de Beaune. This village wine made in a very hot year demonstrate the top level attained by the domaine (it was drunk alongside Geno Boulanger 2020 1er cru les Vergers and blew it) JM Vincent vineyards have high density planting, high canopies which protect grapes from ripening too fast, and the best winemaking techniques such as keeping only the first press juice...well the result is just stunning and prices remain low for the quality.

  • 2014 Charles Van Canneyt Griotte-Chambertin

From magnum. Airy, red fruited, spicy scents precede a red fruited and gorgeous attack with its silky sap, not overtly complex but some reasonnable depth of flavors, ending chalky and moderately long. Textbook Griottes. Did not have much expectation on this but actually a good surprise as this is a negociant cuvee.

  • 2017 Benjamin Leroux Clos de la Roche

Gorgeous scents of five spices and red berries introduce the wine, the attack is ultra refined and all red fruited, I very much like the pure silk on the entry, the mid palate lacks a bit of depth, ending in a gentle finish. After five hours of air, the wine sheds some of its sap and became tighter, revealing its tannic frame, the finish was longer and infused by chalk. This is a refined CDR, in the Leroux style, which is always elegant and balanced, I do think that Benjamin performs better in hot vintages as his elegant winemaking style delivers more when the fruit is more concentrated. Drink after 2027.
