Fresh red berry fruits. A bit raw and green for me and tannins a little stringent. Not too bad for an AC bordeaux but not quite to my taste. Benefits from decanting for a few hours to help smooth things out a little.

Here is a fabulously rich old style bordeaux that is still kicking - and strong for it's age. I was expecting muted tannins and bordeaux earth and whilst definitely there they are still in the background somewhat. Tannins are still strong, rich red berry fruits with hints of fresh blackberry. For me personally I thought it needed more time in the bottle. Barton's wines sometimes have the strange desire to lie dormant in the bottle for 10-15 years before mellowing and I think this might be one of them. I would leave for another 5. It's a fantastic wine though! If only I had enough to try 1 each year from now until 2020

2nd wine of Haut-Brion. Seemed very nicely balanced at this youngish stage. Balance of ripe red and black fruits, a hint of black pepper and leather. Seemed almost new-worldish to me (but not overly oaky in that sense). Very enjoyable now but perhaps wait a bit. Not overly tannic.
