  • 2010 Reynvaan Family Vineyards Syrah The Contender

For a milestone birthday we had a 3-litre bottle of Contender. To make sure this drank well it was opened and decanted several hours before dinner. From the nose to the long lingering finish it blew 14 wine lovers away. Everything was perfect. This is a well structured big wine in the Walla Walla tradition though not too funky. I feel Reynvaan wines are made to be enjoyed sooner than later and can be described as "feminine" where Cayuse is mucho masculine, a little too much too much. As for the tasking notes, berry notes, blue and black, some smoke, plenty of nice minerality and lavender. Finish kept going and wine just got better until all was gone. Really really like all their wines, right in my sweet spot.

  • 2012 Booker Vineyard Grenache The Ripper

This wine despite its youth is among my 5 all-time favorites. Perfectly balanced, seamless, big and rich yet light and agile everything is perfectly in place though I can only imagine what it will be like with some time settle down. Light in color, big nose and loads of red fruit. I cannot think of Grenache I've enjoyed more.

  • 1999 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino

What a pleasant surprise, still vibrant, plenty of energy (hate to use this Galloni descriptor) but it fits so well. This wine has plenty of life in it, among the most dark red fruit, think plum we've had in a Brunello in a long long time. I think this wine is now in its drinking prime. A long sweet finish was the perfect ending. Did not decant, basically pop and pour over a 2 hour dinner. Wish we had more.
