The first nose was a bit disappointing, as I thought the wine may be past its prime. However, after some time and air, this opened up beautifully. This PN drinks better than many Burgundies at a similar price point, albeit with some definite Tassie "terroir." The nose is highly perfumed with notes of juniper, eucalyptus, and lavender in a dense bramble-fruit base. It has excellent structure and body, and a lovely garnet color. It's drinking great now, but I think it could hold on at least another 5 years. I wish I had another bottle!

Nice nose of rich apricot and butterscotch. On the palate it's heavy and rich. Perhaps a bit too much sweetness, as the overall impression of the wine is heavy. A bit less sugar and perhaps we would have noticed the acidity. However, it paired nicely with stir-fried bok choy in a plum sauce.

In a vintage as hot as 2003, it is amazing that Altare was able to produce a wine with as much finesse as this one. Ripe red fruits, and lingering spice on the palate. The alcohol is a touch hot, but that would be expected in this vintage. It doesn't have the elegance of other vintages (subtle spice and fruit, etc.), but the wine is still excellent. Drink it now.
