A friend of mine used to work for Wardair and travelled to France for many years. He collected some nice wines during that time and exposed me to some amazing bordeaux vintages. This quickly got me passionate about good wine and I have been collecting since then for close to 10 years. There is so much to learn but that is the fun part about it. Although I have been told that I have a very good palate, my goal is to become better at describing those terrific characteristics.
An article I read in WS about 6 years ago showed me how to manage a balanced cellar of about 300 wines and I have to say it has worked well so far. I also realized then that if I was going to buy some nice wine and cellar it for awhile it was going to be important to ensure that they are stored proprerly. All of mine is stored in a VintageKeeper cabinet which works well for my needs. I am fortunate to live in the Vancouver area which is only 3 hours from some amazing wine regions including the Naramata Bench of the Okanagan Valley and Woodinville, a great place to taste the wines of 100 different wineries from all across Washington State.
