  • 2006 Rocca Family Vineyards Syrah

    Dark dense purple color
Generic red fruit but not that prominent
Extremely dense and viscous, explosive sweet cherry, ripe but not jammy, mouthcoating and full bodied, very focused and clean, transitioning to dark chocolate and firm tannins.

Big and loud AND really well made.

Gorgeous complex nose -- maybe jasmine and lavender and cherries. Medium bodied, supple and juicy, flirting with green and herbal, soft tannins. Medium length finish. For my palate I'd be excited to try some of their more modern wines which no doubt would be riper, but hopefully retain the sublime nose. Eight hours sitting in a recorked bottle was not enough time for this wine -- the next day was when it really shined. If pressed for time, I would recommend decanting.
