Smells true to Syrah, nice pepper, smokiness and ripe cherries coming through. The pepper comes through on the pallet quite strongly with red ripe fruit, cherries and raspberries, a little smoke and charcoal, also a medium amount of acidity and a good tannin structure. It lacks a little roundness for me, quite piercing the way it attacks my mid pallet And the finish lingers but feels one dimensional. I have never been a great Syrah fan, but wanted to try this one because the claret was delicious. This was still a good wine, but not worth the price.

Decided to crack up another bottle, I enjoy one of these per month and share a few bottles with friends. This wine needs to be drunk, most bottles have been great, but all are showing their age. The one I opened today is dying quickly, even as I sit here writing this I can tell how it's changing. Upon opening it was really smooth, earthy with a little fruit remaining, but the air is causing the volatile aromas to evaporate and it's starting to smell and taste sour. So I better drink fast! It's amazing to see it change so quickly but obviously it is understandable.
