A ridiculous dose of oak proves to completely overtake the fruit. Coupled with the silly level of reduction and what you're left with is a hot mess of a wine. 81pts is being overly generous to a producer who's wines i typically enjoy.

A very underwhelming showing from this variable vineyard site. In the hands of the right producer, CdlR can create a special bottle of wine but this is woody, slightly harsh and lacks the focus and restraint of the better CdlR's. A nice wine generally speaking but far from living up to its GC status.
