Decanted and then tasted straight away - no need to wait - this was a much better bottle than the last one (about a year ago) and proving again that the 2003s have not fallen over en masse. Along with cedar and cinammon, still plenty of fruit remains on the nose and palate, almost a fruitcake sweetness with soft tannins. Defying its age, this is in perfect condition right now. Excellent given its price.

Decanted 1 hour and lovely to drink now. Still purple/black colour, not showing excessive age. Soft and chewy tannins; initial blackcurrant nose gives way to liquorice/fennel with hint of dark chocolate on palate too. My last bottle and the best yet!

I managed to grab the last drop of this at the end of the bottle, which had not been properly decanted either! Given it had also been open a few hours at least it was actually still pretty impressive.
Initially I could find nothing but yeasty Marmite so I didn't attempt my mouthful (as I only had one) but amazingly ten minutes later it had revived and now there was burnt bacon with a little molasses. That became truffles and bark and then died again. The taste was mainly cigar with reasonable length for one so old.

1/10/2014 11:52:00 PM - Liversan 05 was a great disappointment. The first vintage of this I ever bought was the 2001 which was cheap and about the same quality as Beaumont. The 05 should have been great and wasn't. Maybe it is now. It didn't seem to me to be going anywhere!
