  • 2003 Qupé Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard

Double decanted for about 30 minutes after careful cellaring Wine was very fresh - lots of time left - but probably won’t improve too much. Very thin clear edge. We will probably save our two remaining bottles for at least 2 & 4 years at least, respectively. Wine opened with dark berries wrapped in leather tobacco pouch. It evolved quickly into a beautiful
Floral, perfumed and garrique nose. Flavors were dark fruit with dark chocolate covered cherries in the mid-palate. Served with grilled rosemary chicken, and Provencial red potatoes. Very nice wine and we can’t wait to see how it evolves over the next 2-10 years

  • 2004 Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard

After a double decant of 1 hour and served with filet mignon dinner...
Dark berry, violets, sandal wood and baking spices on the nose - very nice but short of "wow" (9/10) Soft and velvety texture, luscious mouthfeel was indeed a "wow" (9.7/10). Interesting but hard to describe flavor a of dark fruit and spices with a 40 sec finish (9.4/10). Agree with others that this wine is very big but is still able to maintain balance and grace. No hurry to open this beauty. We'll keep our last on for at least another decade.

  • 2010 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir

We love Clos Pepe wines, and really enjoy SRH Pinot.

Popped and poured, and then drank over the next 4 days - while vacuum pumping and keeping the bottle cool.

Upon popping, the wine is aromatically effusive with bright red cherries, some black cherries, a touch of earthiness, and some spices. It smelled sweeter than it tasted. Initially the flavors were a bit monolithic, with tart red cherries, some spice, and it finished a bit hot (it did not hide the 14.5% alc). It tasted a bit disjointed, if only because the nose led us to expect sweetness, but the flavors actually were more tart.

On day two, the nose picked up some darker fruit. Not much change to the nose after that. The flavors picked up more spices. Still some heat on the finish.

Day three was the best day, as some of the heat dissipated.

We did not have this with food.

We enjoyed the 2009 better, and prefer a more reserved style of Pinot. Will hold our next bottle for at least 1 year. We don't see it improving much beyond that.

Would have rated it at least 92 if it had less heat on the finish, and will do so if our next bottle blows of the heat faster.
