  • 2015 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses

Really good! Nose a bit subdued, tropical perfumes and passion fruit interestingly enough. This is not the theme of the palate though, instead you get the pure essence of Chablis. Steely minerality, a pureness and precision that just sings. Medium citrus fruit on the finish. If any gripes, the finish could be longer. On the other hand, every new sip is pure enjoyment. First bottle I had of this, so don’t know how it has evolved, but clearly in a great place right now. Score it at 93p, but would consider 94 as well, it is that good.

  • 2020 Vassaltis Assyrtiko

Find this wine to be a bit less steely minerality than I have come to expect from an Asyrtiko. This wine is a bit rounder. Light citrussy fruit at the fore, salinity on the finish, as others have noted. I like it a lot, feel it is crisp and clean. A distinct sense of place.

  • 2010 Meerlust Rubicon

Rich, but primary, nose, black currant at the fore. Palate very nice, again the dark red fruit, the black currant. Lots of other things going on too though. Soft, but present, tannins. A certain level of steely minerality. Really like the wine, but find myself defining it just as much by what it is not. Bordeaux blend, but would not mistake for a Bdx. Laid down for quite a while, but still feels youthful Enjoyable and interesting.
