Well-made Etna rosso with tons of fruit, slightly floral with hints of herbs. Good balance. The kind of wine made to accompany rich tomato-based Italian food. up to 10-yr old vines; 80% Nerello Mascalese, 20% Nerello Cappuccio; volcanic soils.

Last bottle opened was in early 2022. I had good memories about it, but let's call them foggy. This was beautiful surprise. As we decanted it, what a blast of ripe fruit, definitely merlot dominant (OK, it's 95%!). A lot of fruit, hints of tobacco, slightly herbal. Well-integrated tannins, a nice touch of acidity to keep everything balanced. A fine example of the elegance of the 2009 Bordeaux for a fraction of the cost of any grand cru, but much more than a fraction of the enjoyment !

Somewhat destabilized by the nose where note reminiscent of malo and vanilla are present. Despite the higher RS for this Grüner (fermentation stopped at 5.4g/L), there is still some acidity to keep the balance. I would not keep remaining bottles for long. Next time, I'll consider a pairing with a dish with more spices like I would for a riesling kabinett.
