Hm, we visited Diamond Creek in June 2022 for the first time. Great visit, tasted the recent releases of Red Rock, Volcanic Hill and Gravelly Meadows, all wonderful, even a lick of the Lake Vineyard. Bought a bunch. So 3 months later - not offered at the tasting and we spent 5 digit Dollars - this email comes out with all this library wine. Surely, I jump in. 1993 Gravelly Meadows one of them. Bought a case (not cheap..). Now, 2 bottles into the case, I am not sure what to make of it. I had much older Napa Cabs (Sterling Vineyards 1974 which was brilliant) but this one is just not coming together. I tried decanting, total failure, and to the credit of the winery, they sent me a replacement (different vintage). But they assured me the wine was splendid, and 3 months after the first bottle the second one was equally meh. So is the Rouzaud Family dumping bad wines from the cellar?? Al and Boots would not approve I am certain, so this is leaving me baffled. Don’t get me wrong, the 2013 Three Vineyards, and all the younger releases are outstanding but why would you sell inferior library wines when you have Roederer money. It has me stumped…..

Opened a bottle last night with Dinner. Used aerator to pour and left to open in the glass for about an hour (very proud of my self restraint). Powerful mountain fruit but the tannins are very much still there. CT has the drink window until 2028 but Jeb Dunnunck in 2020 projected it out to 2040. Wait another 5 years to open your bottles, it will be worth the wait. Awesome wine.

PNP from a magnum (sorry, I should know better…). Funky nose for the first 30 min but then, very smooth. Black fruit, some tobacco, still a ton of life left. Will try to get more from the winery, it is just so good.
