My first experience with the producer. This one is not shy to quickly demonstrate how much it is here for serious business. Beautiful, rich opacity without any heaviness on the palate. One word immediately comes to my mind: depth. This is one of the strongest qualities of this wine in contrast to other Barbera wines I have tried. Blackberries, plums and background herbal notes. Also, quite Serralunga-esque, the tar, the liquorice. Wood can definitely be felt on day 1 although it fades on day 2 and 3. Same thing for the slightly aggressive tart cherry bite this wine has. All in all, serious and classy Barbera. This is it.

Strawberry and cherry jam, prunes, dried cherries, sweet nuts/sweet oak/marzipan, peperoncino, candied peaches/apricots and elegant, peppery tobacco notes. Not my style of Amarone; too much jammy/cooked, sugary strawberry notes (think strawberry syrup-like). Somewhat reminiscent of Cannonau/Grenache, for the little experience I have with this grape, but in a sweeter/richer style.

Very similar strong sweet tobacco/tonka bean aroma from, I presume, new French oak as in some of Molettieri's Taurasi wines. Not a fan of that... I much preferred the 2011 iteration of this wine.
