  • 2002 Château Sénéjac

Decanted for 2 hours. CORK was in perfect condition. Great NOSE, loads of leather and a hint of old hay, all the other classic medoc notes. COLOR was still very vibrant with minimal bricking around the rim. PALATE was very herbaceous and savoury with subtle hints of dried thyme, almonds, olives, masses of black cherries and a very slight hint of barnyard- love it! Only negative was the lack of ripeness(like most of the 02's have) that really became apparent on the finish. TANNINS were lovely and powdery and fully intergrated. Really enjoyable wine at the price point, was well rewarded for my cellaring. A nice surprise!

  • 2001 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots

2.5 hours decant. CORK was a bit touch and go with some seepage. This really took me by surprise! I wasn't expecting much from this, but true to form when burgundy is on it is really on. COLOR was medium light with white halo. The NOSE was absolutely delicious, it really drew the nose in to the glass. Powerful classic pommard profile. Really spectacular PALATE, big but not over the top. Ripe and meaty flavours, masses of dark cherries with soft and lush TANNINS. Just was you'd expect from a pommard. This wine had some real class and totally smoked some other burgs I've had at twice the price!
Drink up soon, most probably at its peak.
