No longer youthful but far from over-the-hill. Tannins and acidity still in balance. Classic Rioja fruits (sweet raspberry, strawberry, cherry) and exquisite moments of dry forest earth and dried leaves. Moments of spice and floral notes. Lingered over this one as long as I could. What a treat!

Farewell to Beato dinner: Wine was decanted. Initial nose of tar and leather. Very tight. As evening wore on, nose cascaded through violets and anise and baking spice. As it opened, this one was not shy on the palate though still showing with youth. More violets, dark berries and eventually sweet cherries. Still loads of licorice, forest floor, and leather. Tannins were noticeable but not overly drying...time has smoothed them some but this wine will continue to age well in bottle for a while yet, methinks. If you are someone who has more than one, try one soon and then wait another 1-3 years to try the next. Very happy it showed its colors to us tonight!

Brief - Single vineyard. Palate was a little tired at this point. Very complex. Lots of great Gruner character here. Wished I'd had more time to linger and evaluate it.
