  • 1989 Château Grand Mayne

Bought on release, prof cellar. Fill is still mid-way into the neck, capsule moving freely. Cork came out in one piece. Color still deep, bright. No bricking. Inviting aroma. Full body. Solid mid palate, with great energy and length. Opening up and expanding within minutes in this case. The wine from this bottle is in superb condition 34 years on. As an aside I have also been drinking ‘84 cab/meritage from Napa and Sonoma and finding similar and surprising results at nearly 40 years of age. Thank you R. Parker.

  • 1984 Lyeth Meritage

Bought on release in SF, in pro storage since. Fill well above neck. Cork in great condition. The wine was simply outstanding. No faults. Just pleasure -bouquet and palate in great balance, full, lush mid-palate, even the color was still rich. That vineyard was obviously special and I hope it’s been well cared for. Quite a story regarding the owner / winemaker “Chip” Lyeth.

  • 1984 Lyeth Cabernet Sauvignon

My cellar since release. SF. Fill -literally at my chalk mark from '87.
Cork easy out with durand. Color: Blk cherry, dense core, slight mahogany at edge. Inviting, clean, and balanced aromas of Maraschino cherry, and wood spice. Pure. Mature but ripe and fully alive.
Palate: full body, rich, with dense mid-palate; ripe cherry, red vines licorice, fennel, and spice. There is brightness to the fruit and nice acidity in the background here with plenty of grip yet. Finishes with slight dry note of char, hint of fruit and red rose - quite luscious and mouthwatering. First time tasting since '87. Stunned really, at the quality here.
