Cellar stored since the early 1990's. Capsule intact, no ullage, but crumbling cork. Decanted 2 hours. Dense ruby with slight bricking at edge. Leather and earth on the nose. Full palate with black fruit, roasted meat, leather with a hint of licorice. Delicious accompaniment to roasted lamb chops with garlic and rosemary and mixed roasted winter vegetables.

Bought on release in sf and cellared immediately. Today the wine showed very well. Tiny degree of ullage. Cork moist 1/3 up from btm. Easy extraction. Capsule clean. Top of cork clean. Translucent blk cherry hue - not dense, not impenetrable. Slightest sliver of lightening at the edge- not amber. Balanced and appealing bouquet of red fruit and spice right out of the gate follows thru on the medium bodied palate. No heaviness. Very feminine and delectable texture with good length. No blk olive here. Finish echoes initial aromas and is pleadingly satisfying. Altogether delightful. Sediments are fine grained, maybe 1:2 tsp volume if that- much of it on thie resting side if the bottle. Very much still in the window of enjoyment without hint of decline. That said i cant emphasize enough the role that proper cellaring plays in long term enjoyment of great vintages of your favorite producers.

This bottle showed so well. Beautiful nose of soft red fruit, a touch of pine, loads of leather and spice. On the palate, beautifully mature syrah with a touch of olive brine and game, but still lots of red fruit. Tannin completely resolved and very nice on the finish.

TN: Weird and wacky wines at Joe's (Joe's): Not as aromatic or as vibrant as the Chave, but it still shows a nice personality of red fruits, black olives, licorice and garrigue. Nicely elegant, though the fruit seems to be receding with the acid structure coming more to the forefront. Pleasant, but I'd drink up. B+/A-.

Past peak and fading. Nose was closed to start with and gradually opened. Palate initially was smooth with tannins on the finish and developed over 30-40 minutes into tobacco, game and leather. Then it was over.
