2018 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux

The way certain folks talk about the dreadfully warm 2018 Chablis vintage, you'd think a Rombauer was awaiting on the other side of the cork.
I'm pleased to report this isn't the case. Yes, there is a touch of ripeness. But the Louis Michel house style still shines through. A steely blade to your palate, albeit a bit duller blade than the 2017 1er crus, steel nonetheless. Citrus, white pepper, and crushed rocks.
I nabbed this 2018 Butteaux in an auction lot of mostly 2017 Louis Michel 1er crus. It is far from the disappointment many would lead you to believe. In fact, it's quite a delight.

Beyond that, it's a scrumptious and complex wine with honeyed apples and chalky minerals on the palate. I saw it described as having high acidity, but that was not what I experienced. (Less acid than Liquid Farm's Golden Slope, for reference.)
Despite my complaints viz the oak, there is something very luxurious about this wine that kept me returning to the glass. If you're jonesing for a buttery oak bouquet — with much more finesse than you'd typically associate with those attributes — then give this a try.
