Beautiful, balanced, delicious wine. Dark, dense, but medium weight and surprisingly supple. Fruit leather on the nose - plum, cassis, black cherry. Earth and wet granite. Taste is more of the same, with smooth tannins and a bright pop. Dark fruit flavors, with espresso, cedar, truffles, and dark chocolate. Brooding but also sprightly. Imagine it will last for many more years, but in a really good place now and hard to imagine it improving much.
Opened up and let sit for about 40 minutes before dinner - coq au vin and petit pois.
Nose is lovely. Intensely floral and fruity (cranberry, cherry), with some spice and earthiness. Robust on the palate! Bold and powerful, with tannins and acid in good balance. Taste is of cranberry, cherry, some forest floor (mushrooms and dirt), cracked black pepper, smoke (not quite meaty, but nearly...), touch of oak. If drinking blind (to the label, and the color) I might have guessed Northern Rhone.
Will soften more in time, but this was really pleasant to drink now. With food, totally quaffable and just blended right into the meal. On it's own, contemplative and complex, and still thoroughly enjoyable.

Dark amber in color. Smell of lychee and apricot. Rich and complex in taste. Sweetness is there, but kind of a background thing. Thick but not syrupy. More tropical and stone fruits, with some toffee and spice (ginger) and a tea-like note - some woody tannin or bitter almond lurking. Citrus, especially orange. More like orange peel - a bit of pith - but orange peels that have been cooked down in syrup or in a marmalade. And served on toast.
