  • 2022 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Domaine Sainte Claire

Stored at 45 degrees, popped and poured. Paired with citrus/garlic roasted chicken and a vegetable salad.

Visually, an appealing light golden color.

On the nose, crisp, fresh green apples - citrus hints, oranges. A refreshing walk through a meadow. Expected scents.

On the palate, quite crisp - pronounced acidity. Crisp like those apples, which follow your nose into your taste buds. Refreshing. Went excellently as a complement to the meal. A bit one-note though, would've loved additional flavor components.

Pleasantly long finish. That crisp feeling endures. That same acidity lingers, too. Overall, satisfied!

  • 1976 Smith Woodhouse Porto Tawny Colheita SWC

Bottled in 2002, spent 26 years aging in cask, as is typical maturation of Colheita ports.

The T-cork fell apart instantly, so the Ah-so saved the day for the rest of the cork. No sediment at all visible in the bottle, much to my surprise. Popped, waited 30 minutes, then poured. Visually, a muted caramel color. Grayish brown.

On the nose, a Belgian bakery. Chocolate, coffee, pastries. Butterscotch. Why isn't there an air freshener smell made out of this?

For the palate, still plenty of acidity. Slightly viscous, with a pleasant caramel taste similar to most Tawnies. Nutty flavors as well, most likely due to the oak casks. Heck of an alcohol burn on the way down, quite hot. Sheesh. What is this, a shot?

Disappointingly, a very short finish. I've had better 10 and 20 year Tawnies, so this one may have been past its prime by now.

  • 2018 Alain Jaume Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Grangette des Papes

60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, & 10% Cinsault. Wonderful ruby color. Pulled from the wine fridge at 55, sat open for an hour.

On the nose, black and red fruits. Spices - herbs, pepper, faint scent of mom's old leather couch.

On the palate, very present tannins at six years. Mellowed out by the 4th glass, far less astringent than the first sip. Really enjoyed that third and fourth drink. Pleasant acidity to help balance it out. Full bodied, dry. Cherry, blackberry flavors.

Enjoyable, once the tannins balance out.
