Prior experience was very positive with this crianza. See my note of 2/24/2013. But not the case today. Nose of vinegar and wet towel. Sour in the mouth. Let it sit for a half hour, no improvement. Let it sit overnight, no improvement. Down the drain.

Terroir-istes International - Spain, Rioja, Lopez de Heredia (Cape Town - Las Cases): (Tasted Blind): A mid-mhogany colour, extending to the rim. The nose shows distinct ripe banana skin with baking spices, pastry, marinated raspberries and tinned cherries, whilst lurking is a slight volatility. The palate reflects the nose, offering a sumptuous and supple texture with notes of vanilla pod, ripe banana skin, tobacco, tomato leaf, mocha and chocolate powder drink. The wood is fairly present (some felt too much). It added a little to the dry mid-palate, but the tannins felt velvety and integrated - the acid had a bit of a kick too. Closed with more tobacco, perhaps a little drier with less flesh but worked well. Blend of 65 Tempranillo, 25 Garnacha 5 Graciano 5 Mazuelo

A 15 year old crianza!? This is a match to most reservas, beautifully mature, still some cherry fruit, and a bit of spicy tobacco. Doubt it will improve from here, but what's not to like?

Interesting! Rustic but complex.
